It is interesting to read the book by Salter titled a "History of Monmouth, and Ocean Counties, A Genealogical Record............." There are lists of two "patent associations"...........the original for the Monmouth Patent and the Rhode Island Monmouth Association. The 1st is the original 4 plus their associated families they found to meet the needs of the settlement of one hundred families in 3 years.........written November of 1665. The second group is from Rhode Island including the areas of Sandwich, Newport, and Gravesend. All contributed money to purchase the original Patent from the Indians that was sanctioned by the Royal Government. Amongst the Rhode Island contributors was William JAMES who has known history and genealogy. Most of the Rhode Island contributors settled but William JAMES himself did not. He sold his patented lands to others. I have these lists printed and will be happy to look up for other family surnames for anyone who has not access to the book. Regards, Linda
