    3. VOLUME VI: Regarding the South River Monthly Meeting House, in the Campbell and Bedford area. Returned from the library after spending 3 hours reading three volumes of Quaker Encyclopedia. There was a wonderful map of all Quaker meeting houses from 1656 thru 1941 of Virginia. I am going to see if I can locate on line. Had to make it in two pieces and the man who did the copying didn't try too hard to get the piece showing in the "page line" between the two sides. But it is a very valuable tool also. Botetourt County meeting was called Old Goose Creek in 1754. Upper Goose Creek Meeting was located in the area of Bedford about half way between the Roanoke river (also called the Staunton) and Lynch's Ferry. It was established in 1786. Lynch's was established in 1754. Lower Goose Creek Meeting House was south along the creek fork and established in 1788. New Goose Creek Meeting was created from South River Meeting and was east of Lower Goose Creek. South River Meeting likely covered Bedford/Campbell areas. It appeared to be a new established meeting house made from Upper Goose Creek and established in 1794 but due to mass migrations of the 1800-1840's was abandoned in the 1850's. This volume has a wonderful explanation about Quakers in the Virginia and the exodus to the Northwest Territories of 1800. I have 3 more volumes to extract on the family lines. page 293: The only big one so far is that of Isaac JAMES who was a member of the South River Meeting. He took removal to Westland Monthly Meeting in 1798 along with his wife and children. John, Elizabeth, Joseph (sometimes called Josiah [ a big piece of news!], Mary, Catherine, Sarah, and Isaac.........all born in the order given with John in 1787 thru Isaac in 1801. The big thing was this about the migration to Ohio Territory/County or call it what you wish: because of no meeting houses, all the (86 families and 43 others left this meeting place between 1801 and 1840) the migrating members went to Westland MM and Redstone in western Penn. and left their certificates on the way. The 1st certificate from South River MM went to Isaac JAMES and his family. page 315: JAMES ____,__,__. Isaac & Sarah [JAMES] Ch.
