On May 4 1861, Frank was 18 years old and became a Private in the Home Guard of Clay County. This was a local County unit. He was under the command of General Sterling Price, and fought at the Battle of Wilson's Creek. In 1862, Frank was captured, took an 'oath of loyalty', swearing to never again take up arms against the Union, and was 'paroled'. Frank then joined the guerrilla forces of Quantrill -- probably the winter of 1862. And fought with this band till the end of the war. Jesse was too young to be accepted, and was never a ligitimate member of the Confederate Army. Quantrill would not accept him either because of his age. But, 'Bloody' Bill Anderson was not so particular. Jesse, 17 years of age joined this guerrilla band in 1864. He was born in lower Mississippi in 1848 and remained there till he was 12 when he was sent to live with relatives and attend school near Independence Missouri." "In July of 1862 he joined Quantrill at Independence." After the war he stated he became a member of the Jesse James Gang". Source: Kansas City Star July 9, 1920 Does this sound like your man? I have a little more information on him if it sounds right. Thurston James
