    3. Hi Tom & everyone, I came in on the tail end of the discussion of Evan JAMES, but it sure caught my attention. I, too, have been searching for Evan. I am descended through his daughter Mary (Polly) who married Daniel Lovett. According to family lore (I have a copy of a manuscript written before 1920 by a descendant - it's online on my Lovett/Lovitt website, listed below. Not much info, but it's listed under online records - biographies, "A family history of 150 years") Evan was buried on the banks of the Muskingum River [Ohio] between Zanesville and Dresden in an unmarked grave. His wife, Ann [Foreman?] JAMES is buried in Irville, Ohio, having died 7 Jun 1839. I see that you mention a will being probated - was that in Loudon county? (Sure would like to see it!!) About Ann - this same manuscript says that her father was Jacob Foreman, and that she had a sister who married William Spencer. There's a biography of William Spencer, in Muskingum Co., Ohio, which fails to mention his first wife's name, but their first son was named Foreman. In the Washington County, MD Oaths of Fidelity, there is listed an Eran (I believe this should be Evan) James, George James, and Grifet James. Evan James was taxed in Washington County [MD] 1783 tax assessment for 4 horses, 6 bc (black cattle?). Evan James is listed as one of the settlers west of Fort Cumberland in Maryland in 1787. Evan James is taxed on 1 lot in the 1793 Allegany County [MD] tax list. In Allegany County [MD] judgements, published in Western Maryland Genealogy Jan 1989, there is the case of MD v. Evan James, yeoman, for stopping the road from the west side of Kigers Island to the Savage River by building a barn thereon. Samuel Ellison, overseer, on evidence of Peter Devecmon and Moses Ayers, Jr. - Court of 20 Oct 1794. I welcome all additions/corrections/correspondence about this elusive ancestor of ours!
