Mary and Jennifer: Regarding the Pee Dee James', early settlers; from the data I have which was compiled by Kenneth McIver James, the James who came to the Pee Dee basin in 1732 went up the Black River from Winyah Bay at what is now Georgetown to an exceptionally tall tree on the river bank, in what is now Williamsburg County. They called the tall tree the King's Tree, and settled in that vicinity. The town of Kingstree is now at that location. Lucas James
