    1. Re: [JAMES-L] H Thomas JAMES>Bartlett JAMES/Sarah ROLINGS
    2. John and Sue Lloyd
    3. Hello, Eric! All I know of Bartlett JAMES' (1770-1845) parentage is that his father was H. Thomas James. We believe the H may have stood for Hugh or Huke, be we are not certain. H. Thomas JAMES may have been born in the mid 1700s in Virgina, but that is also uncertain. We do not yet know who Bartlett's mother was, but we believe they were married in VA. Bartlett was a farmer and was born around 1770 in Virginia. He died in 1845 in Smith Co, TN. The records we use for documentation show that Bartlett moved from Montgomery Co, NC in 1823 and purchased 640 acres of land in the 15th District of Smith Co, TN in 1823. Bartlett and his wife, Sarah "Sally" ROLINGS (also spelled RAWLINS further back in her linage), were married 16 March 1791 in Halifax Co, VA (marriage ban in Halifax Co, VA). They were in the 1830 census for Smith Co, TN. Both Bartlett and Sally were present in the same county in July of 1845. Sally ROlINGS was listed in the 1810 census for Montgomery Co, NC and in the 1850 census for Smith Co, TN. Sally was born about 1769 in VA, the daughter of John (d.1803 in Charlotte Co, VA/present 1803 in Charlotte Co, VA) and Sarah "Sally" (unknown maiden name) ROLINGS. Bartlett and Sally had five children that I know of: Alexander JAMES (1792-1846) who married Elizabeth BROOKSHIRE (1794-dec.), Daniel (1799-1854, my ancestor) who married Sarah Unknown (1802-1869), Bartlett JAMES, Jr. ((1808-1856) who married Mary Elizabeth TUCKER (1808-1856), Letty Berry JAMES (1813-?), and John R. JAMES (1810-1892) who married Martha H. ALLISON. As you can see, I have not yet connected my ancesters to any specific JAMES of VA. I would be enormously grateful for any help to do so. Do you have anything that might help me in my search? Thanks! Sue JAMES Lloyd The Woodlands, TX
