Happy New Year James group! Here are the latest DNA results. Richard Hoyt James is a relative of David Mitchell James and they were supposed to match DNA. And they do!! I am sure they will continue to match in the 37 marker test. David is calling this the " Edmund James, d Jan 1672/73 Essex Co., MA" group and they now have three members of the group. Hi James: We did not have any tests that went to the Lab last week, but we did have one test that went this week in Batch 133. That is William James 25 marker test. We have several tests in Batch 130 and Batch 131 that should start coming back in January. Our group has 38 members and 34 kits have been returned. We just had a man sign on today for the test, so our James test is growing and has had a very good year. We are going to look forward to lots of new matches next year and we encourage any of you out there who have been putting it off to sign on today. Glynda, I see a new DNA site for Hinton, but no one seems to have participated yet. I briefly looked through the JAMES site, and there are several James men from NC, so you may want to look at it in detail and see if any of them are possibly your line of James'. http://www.jamesdna.net/ If you click on each individual number (on the far left side), their line will pop up for you to view in detail. Good luck! The New Castle, DE James family seems to have started with Howell JAMES, a Quaker who first settled in the Chester co, PA area. He came from Pont y Moel, Monmouthshire, England, in 1684. He had several sons-- James James, William James, Phillip James, Howell James. At this point it gets complicated because they seemed to have named their children the same names, and many seemed to have been married more than once. So I'm trying to sort them all out, and probably have children attached to the wrong parents!!! I will search through my files tonight and see if I have a George JAMES. Gwen, I am very interested in the DNA results you just posted. Even though there is no match to my family, I am interested in a JAMES family that moved from the Welsh Tract, New Castle county, Delaware, to Welsh Neck, SOUTH CAROLINA in the 1700's. If I can establish that Chuck comes from this line, then I can finally eliminate this family as being related to my family. Is Chuck a member of this List? If not, perhaps I will try contacting him directly for the name of his earliest James ancestor in SC. Winston County was pro union during the Civil War and many men left and fought for the union. Because of this, Alabama state government had a long memory and to this day Winston County is one of the poorer counties in Alabama. My immediate family are from Cullman County, a county that was created in 1877 from large portions of Winston County and some adjoining smaller counties. I was born in Birmingham, Al." Hi Folks, After seeing how many James families on this List came from (or are living in) Wales, I decided we needed one more Rootsweb James List! My advice would be to continue to subscribe to THIS list, but to add your name to the Wales list too. The JAMES-WLS mailing list is for the discussion and sharing of information regarding the James surname and variations (e.g., Jamieson, Jameson) in Wales, Great Britain. To subscribe send the message "subscribe" (without the quote marks) to james-wls-l- request@rootsweb.com (mail mode) or james-wls-d-request@rootsweb.com (digest mode) This is a free list, and you may unsubscribe at any time. Remember, if your JAMES family comes from elsewhere in the United Kingdom, there is a James List for the UK as well. Susan
Merry Christmas!! Here come more James DNA results!! Charles Roy James does not have any matches in the James DNA group, but he is the same Haplogroup as Duke James. They are the J2 which is defined as: This lineage originated in the northern portion of the Fertile Crescent where it later spread throughout central Asia, the Mediterranean, and south into India. As with other populations with Mediterranean ancestry this lineage is found within Jewish populations. Kathy, I wonder if your John Levi James could be a descendent of Howell James, who first settled in Radnor, Chester county, PA, but died in Delaware (once part of PA) in 1717. I have not traced Howell's line as far down as 1790, because I'm not even sure I'm related to Howell James! Do you know where in Delaware your John Levi James lived? Anyone interested in the JAMES line of Ohio can read about them in a book called "Buckeye Titan" by W. E. and Ophia D. Smith. It has lots of information about their life. I believe much of the information comes from family diaries.(book published in 1953 by Historical and Philosophical Society of Ohio) sarah jane ----- Original Message ----- From: "Susan Rosine" <S.JAMES.CLARK@prodigy.net> To: <JAMES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 19, 2005 10:42 AM Subject: Re: [JAMES-L] Re: John Levi James line > Jacklyn, >> I hope you don't mind, but I thought I better forward >> your email to me to the entire list, in case anyone >> else is interested.
