    2. In a message dated 4/22/2006 12:39:43 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, bev25420@msn.com writes: David, Has there been any DNA tested from descendants of the Thomas James line in Northumberland Co., Va or Francis James line out of Richmond Co, later to become King George Co, Va.? These are two James lines that I would love to see a documented descendant's DNA tested. Bev Hi, Bev: That is a question for the whole list. What lineages we have are posted on the site with the results. Just click on the kit number in the left column and the lineages will pop up, along with the contact e-mail for that researcher. I do know that there are several VA lines in the study. David James James DNA Surname Project _www.jamesdna.net_ (http://www.jamesdna.net)

    3. Hi Rebecca: The results are coming back early. Larry James 12 marker results were due back on May 5 and they came yesterday. Your test is in the next batch so the 12 markers may be back next week! I did not know that you had a connection to Chester Co, PA. That would be great. We are thinking now that we have three separate DNA lines from Chester Co, PA. Howell James from Monmouthshire, Wales to PA 1684-1717 New Castle Co, DE David James, c1669, probably Wales - 1739 Chester Co., PA James James, 1650-64 Chester Co., PA or Pembrokeshire, Wales - 1708 Chester Co, PA Right now we have your line like this. 3. I'm surprised Larry James did not match my David JAMES, but I was sure if he didn't match my David James, that he would match Howell JAMES, yet another Quaker who lived in Chester county, PA at the same time as David and James James. Nope!! So many different James families in that area!!! Back to the drawing board for me; I was fairly certain that my David was the son of James James, but DNA results seem to indicate that is not the case. Still, I would love for others from the James JAMES line to participate in the DNA project. James James had three sons; surely there are other male descendents of him out there!! 3. Yes, Susan, I agree. I can't believe there are so many James families!! We really need to find another descendant of James James in order to confirm his DNA markers. I can hardly wait for all 37 markers of Larry James to come back. This DNA testing is just full of surprises! I guess David will have to start a new group for Larry on the webpage. 1. interesting record in Faquier records.

    3. The author of this book on Fauquier Families, John Alcock, spent much time putting these records together; as he indicates, they was lots of room for error and miss-filing as well as some missing years between.......... When I reached this 3rd entry for the surname JAMES, and John I ran into a surprise: JAMES, John. Tax tithe paid by Diana (NOTE: does not say DINAH) JAMES in 1777 with the tithe location being in the NORTHEAST DISTRICT with the commissioner of tax collections under John MOFFITT. In 1781 thru 1793 this same John paid his own tax tithes in the Southern District under commissioners Thomas KEITH and Peter GRANT. There are two MARRIAGE BONDS showing for this John JAMES. one to Elizabeth WRIGHT dated for June 28, 1785 with bonder James WRIGHT; and one to Levisa WOOD dated Jan 8 1787 with bonder Thomas BAHAN. 1781 he is in the Book 7, page 23 as Ensign. 1785 he is in the Minute Book 7, page 256 as a Capt..... 1793 he is in the Minute Book 11, page 32 as a Justice 1798 he is in Minute Book 14, page 237 courts suit against execs of George NEAVILLE in chancery. 1799 he is in Deed Book 14, page 823. "He & Levice (her mark) JAMES 25 acres partly in Stafford to Benjamin PAYNE; wit Henry Rousel PAYNE, Joseph and John JAMES. 1799 Deed Book 14, page 351 listed as voting. I am wondering about the two marriage bonds here; it is obvious that the WRIGHT/JAMES marriage must have been established with a John JAMES as a fact due to will documents. However, this above Deed Book transaction with the marriage Bond of and Deed transaction document with the same two individuals named John and Levice JAMES is rather awkward, The Marriage of John JAMES and Elizabeth "BETSEY" WRIGHT is given by the author of the WASHINGTON ANCESTRY as being June 1783. The John of this marriage is given to have died leaving Betsey WRIGHT/JAMES a widow. WASHINGTON ANCESTRY by Charles Hoppin notes the will writing as 1802 proved in will Book 3, p. 381, Fauquier Co. Children Aldridge, David, Mary who married (unkn. SMITH), Margaret (Married KELLY). Family letters and other material seems to support that Betsy JAMES never re-married and remained a widow until she died in October of 1832. There for, the second Marriage bond is for a different John JAMES. There are three other John JAMES listings yet to be transcribed. I am thinking that the second Marriage is for cousin.............possibly a son of George JAMES. The tithe areas need to be explored and compared for some types of connection facts for both these persons named John JAMES. __________________ Linda M. Thank lthank@turboisp.com __________________

    3. Perhaps you could supply some possible reasons for the family to be in China: Missionaries? Planters? Military personnel? Traveling? I an not sure whether the JAMES researchers who read this list may link to these areas in the 1800's. Is there some sort of census or paper trail that leads you to the states? Family story? __________________ Linda M. 3. Excerpts from volume title The Washington Ancestry and Records of The McClain, Johnson, and Forty Other Colonial American Families. Prepared for EDWARD LEE McCLAIN by Charles Archer Hoppin IN THREE VOLUMES. Greenfield, Ohio: Privately Printed 1932. In VOLUME II: page 286, mention of Charles JAMES. re: the history of the HUSBAND/HUSBANDS genealogy of William HUSBAND/S of St. Mary County, Maryland and Shrewsbury Parish, Kent, Maryland. notation: William HUSBAND witnessed a deed written of November 14, 1699 of Charles JAMES to John WATS. [Kent County Deed Book, I-page 177]. Shrewsbury Parish, Kent is where William moved to shortly prior to this witnessing. This leads to the assumption that the property in this deed transaction was owned by Charles JAMES at the writing of the deed in the in St. Mary's County, Maryland or in Kent County, MD. circa 1699. Transaction filed in Kent County, Md. __________________ Linda M. Thank lthank@turboisp.com __________________
