I would really appreciate any information available on the David James, Sr James line from Virginia/West Virginia. My area of interest is David James Sr background in Wales prior to coming to Virginia.
While fleshing the marriages and wills of my New Jersey root for surname JAMES, ............Robert born ca 1672, I find his sons and his daughters families drifting southwest from Middlesex Co., Windsor Twp, N.J. to the areas of the southwestern parts of N.J. such as Salem and other PA boundary areas. Below is the will of Thomas, one of Robert's sons. Another will for one Kitty (Catherine) JAMES of Salem Co. is listed for Mar. 10, 1792. She was a SINNICKSON (her mother was Rachel, of John, Esp. of Penns Neck, Salem Co.). The family had ties to the McKNIGHT family of which one of Robert's daughters married into in the Monmouth Co. area. Her will lists cousins named HUNT, BAINBRIDGE, .......some of Hunterdon Co. ..........the husband of Kitty JAMES is dec'd and to date I have not located who this is. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Was given a tract of land in Middlesex Co. of which his father, Robert, had purchased at the Sheriff's sale of John Lecount at New Windsor. He also was given an additional 282 acres of land at New Windsor. WILL: April 25, 1785. N.J. ;Post -Revolutionary Documents; Calendar of Wills-1791-1795, Vol. 8,p 200. WILL: JAMES, Thomas of Windsor Twsp., Middlesex Co., will of. Nephews, James HEBERT, Richard HERBERT, Robert JAMES, (son of Robert) and John JAMES (son of Richard), each 5 pounds. Son, Robert JAMES, remainder of estate. Executors--friends and brothers, Richard JAMES, Robert JAMES, and Obediah HERBERT. Witnesses--John SMITH, Andrew REYNOLDS and Andrew ROWAN. Proved may 22, 1795. 1795, April 29. Inventory, 170pounds,5shillings.8p; made by Daniel WILSON. File 8627-8632L. WILL: Note: Richard, Robert, and Thomas the dec'd are sons of Robert JAMES of birth ca 1672 who died 1778 in Monmouth Co., N.J. The HERBERT children are the children of the sister, Rebecca JAMES. The JAMES boys are sons of Thomas brothers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- __________________ Linda M. Thank lthank@turboisp.com __________________
Gwen, Rebecca and All, I think there is yet another JAMES family of Chester county, but no one has tested yet from this family--- Aaron JAMES (yet another Quaker). Larry Timbre James has received his whole 37 marker DNA test results and he does not have any matches in the James DNA group. So if Larry has his family line correct, that means that none of us in the test can be descended from the Quaker James James of Wales and Chester Co, PA. Our test continues to grow, so maybe in the future there will be some matches. We really do appreciate Larry being the first from this line to have his 37 marker test and setting the mark that everyone else must meet. Rebecca James 12 marker test for her brother should be back this week and she is hoping to be a match with one of the Chester Co, PA James families. Everyone be sure and check the James DNA webpage where David James is presenting all of our DNA results in a graphic format that groups all of the families together. http://www.jamesdna.net LARRY TIMBRE JAMES #57434 E-mail: Larry James Larryj1939@aol.com Fred James 1882 Uxbridge, ONT-1922 Denver, CO/Mertie Sheeks Alonzo James abt. 1854 Uxbridge, ONT-1931 Vancouver, BC/Mercy-Ann Hilborn John James 1813 Uxbridge, ONT-1876 Uxbridge, ONT/Rachel Widdifield Ezekiel James 1782 Delaware Co, PA-1870 Uxbridge, ONT/Ruth Lundy Ezekiel James 1736 Chester Co, PA-1808 Uxbridge, ONT/Keziah Harvey John James 1713 Chester Co, PA-1750 prob. I am so impressed with the idea that people are willing to share such wonderful historical document information such as wills in order to try to hook up in the DNA Project. I strongly believe this is about the only way there is going to be progress AFTER the advent of successful MATCHES! Way to go people! Keep up the good works! Today we are attuned to the way people move in society to overcome economic and family problems. Also in tune with barriers placed by loses of jobs, loses of homes and natural disasters. It's a good thing to keep in mind these "localized" events because they do make one use their imagination in research. There is ALWAYS a reaction to an ACTION whether caused by man or nature. SOMETHING always makes people make choices that cause them to move, even a few miles or across a county line or more drastically, leave everything behind. It may be too many kids in a family for a father and mother to "gift" enough to make a living, too many jealousies amongst children, a death of a parent and a child or several children having to be bonded or "farmed" out to eat, or even a re-marriage where the "new spouse" is not too happy with additional numbers in the household...........not all second, third, or fourth, etc marriages were "family friendly". I am really impressed with all the guys who have shown "moxie" and stepped up to try and bring history and the past together for the JAMES family history. As we all know, there is more to family living than the notoriety of a few or even the good of a few. Never get sidetracked from your REAL GOAL which is your own particular descending and ascending lines! Blessings, Linda Linda __________________ Linda M. Thank lthank@turboisp.com __________________

Are there anyone on this list that is a documented descendant of the following lines: Thomas James of Northumberland Co., Virginia. This Thomas James married Margaret Downing and according to his will, recorded 16 May 1716 in Northumberland Co., Va he had the following children: Joshua; Thomas T.; Margaret; Moses; Charles and George James. Francis James of Richmond Co., Va and later King George Co., Va. Francis married Mary Sherwood, dau/o Philip Sherwood. Francis' will of 24 Oct 1717, recorded 7 July 1721 mentions a son, Sherwood and daughter, Jane and his second wife, Margaret. Francis James had another son, Francis, Jr, who sued his father's estate on 3 Nov 1721. Francis James, Jr. died in Westmoreland Co., Va in 1737 leaving two sons, Francis and John James. Sherwood James m. Ann Long and owned land in Caroline Co., Va and Orange Co., Va until abt. 1750's when he and wife, Ann, sold their Virginia lands and moved to South Carolina. He had two sons, Francis and Sherwood, Jr. If you know of a documented male descendant of these two lines I would be willing to contribute toward having their DNA tested. Thanks, Bev Thomas
