    1. Ships from Australia in 1791 with JAMES
    2. Australia's Third Fleet The third fleet of 11 ships arrived in 1791, with over 2000 convicts. The newspaper report states that 194 male convicts and 4 female convicts died during the voyage, and that though conditions on board ship weren't as "diabolical" as the previous year, they were still outrageous. The convicts from Ireland who arrived on board the "Queen" are not included in the newspaper lists. As before, the list was compiled in London as so there is no way of knowing which people died on the voyage out, or did not leave England for any reason. From the "NEW HOLLAND MORNING POST", 18th October, 1791 A list of criminals who have come to our shores in recent months Our readers will find hereunder a List of Persons transported as Criminals to New South Wales in the Ships as following, via: Atlantic, William and Ann, Britannia, Matilda, Salamander, Albemarle, Mary Anne, Admiral Barrington, Active and Gorgon. 3. I have been acquainted with two cousins in Australia who have had to deal with researching convicts from these types of "expulsions" from the British Isles. If someone needs a possible clue to what or where to go for resources I would be happy to contact my cousins and see if they have some advice. This is a grand posting and will be most appreciated by many. __________________ Linda M. 3. This is a searchable database: http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/#search I did a basic JAMES entry and there are some viewable and the data is very good. Try it for anyone you can think of who may have been there in your research and you may have some nice surprises! I received this from a cousin and here is what she states: " not all have been scanned as yet but 1910 to 1923 are complete with listings for all from 1910 to 1955. There is an advanced search option that can be used if as was the case in those days, spellings were varied according to whom ever was recording le Jenkins Jinkins, etc. I found so many confirming facts from these actual images of the record on file in the Missouri archives, You will note in limited instances in the pre 1910 database some data is available but death certificates were not mandatory until 1910 in Missouri. That requires clicking on the link located above the search option on this link." Linda __________________ Linda M. Thank lthank@turboisp.com __________________

    3. Anyone researching in the Kentucky and Virginia area should be well served to remember that the word "TRANSYLVANIA" has a big place in the history and movement of people into and out of the same areas. 1. The Famous James Sisters from London
    2. Lynne Cox
    3. Hi List, According to my Husbands grandmother, Hannah Cox nee Wildsmith born 1912 Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, his 2 x great grandmother was one of the famous James sisters from London. Perhaps one of those stories that won’t be proved but going on what I have which is very little, I have to believe this for the time being. My husbands 2 x great grandmother was call Lottie James born about 1854 Middlesex, London according to the 1881 census when she was working as a butchers clerk, in Birmingham, Warwickshire. Lottie married Albert Bayliss on 13th October 1884 at Edgbaston, Birmingham, Warwickshire at this time she gives her age as 26, probably because Albert was age 22, the marriage certificate she doesn’t name her father. Another family story about her is that she was disinherited because she married a butcher (he was not in her class) Albert Bayliss was a Master Butcher. On the 1891 and 1901 census, she gives her age as 31 and 41 in 1901 Lottie adds more information and she says that she was born in Paddington, London. Lottie and Peter Bayliss had the following children Ethel Hildegard BAYLISS, born 1885 Birmingham, Warwickshire. Ethel married George Arthur COX, born 1884 Birmingham, Warwickshire in 1907, they had one son Arthur Cox born 1912, Birmingham Warwickshire. Arthur married Hannah Wildsmith above. Walter Stanley BAYLISS born 1889 Edgbaston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, died in 1916 he was a Lance Corporal in the 1st Battalion, Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry and died at the battle of the Somme. I have searched for Lottie on the census returns for 1861 and 1871 I have been unable to find her, with each variant I can think of. Anyone who also knows anything about the famous James sisters from London or can place Lottie James born 1854, I am taking the age she gives in 1881 as her true age because she had not reason to say otherwise, I would really like to hear from you. Lynne

She was a woman of remarkable strength and vigor for one of advanced age. Her last sickness was of short duration. She remained conscious almost to the last moment, and gave good assurance that for her death had no terror. Her end was peace Funeral was held from her late residence conducted by Dr. Lathrop, her Pastor. The funeral address was delivered by Dr. B.F. Miller, of Indianola, a special friend of the family. 1. South River Quaker Monthly Meetings, Virginia 1798-1802, surname JAMES

    3. VOLUME VI: Regarding the South River Monthly Meeting House, in the Campbell and Bedford area. Returned from the library after spending 3 hours reading three volumes of Quaker Encyclopedia. There was a wonderful map of all Quaker meeting houses from 1656 thru 1941 of Virginia. I am going to see if I can locate on line. Had to make it in two pieces and the man who did the copying didn't try too hard to get the piece showing in the "page line" between the two sides. But it is a very valuable tool also. Botetourt County meeting was called Old Goose Creek in 1754. Upper Goose Creek Meeting was located in the area of Bedford about half way between the Roanoke river (also called the Staunton) and Lynch's Ferry. It was established in 1786. Lynch's was established in 1754. Lower Goose Creek Meeting House was south along the creek fork and established in 1788. New Goose Creek Meeting was created from South River Meeting and was east of Lower Goose Creek. South River Meeting likely covered Bedford/Campbell areas. It appeared to be a new established meeting house made from Upper Goose Creek and established in 1794 but due to mass migrations of the 1800-1840's was abandoned in the 1850's. This volume has a wonderful explanation about Quakers in the Virginia and the exodus to the Northwest Territories of 1800. I have 3 more volumes to extract on the family lines. page 293: The only big one so far is that of Isaac JAMES who was a member of the South River Meeting. He took removal to Westland Monthly Meeting in 1798 along with his wife and children. John, Elizabeth, Joseph (sometimes called Josiah [ a big piece of news!], Mary, Catherine, Sarah, and Isaac.........all born in the order given with John in 1787 thru Isaac in 1801. The big thing was this about the migration to Ohio Territory/County or call it what you wish: because of no meeting houses, all the (86 families and 43 others left this meeting place between 1801 and 1840) the migrating members went to Westland MM and Redstone in western Penn. and left their certificates on the way. The 1st certificate from South River MM went to Isaac JAMES and his family. page 315: JAMES ____,__,__. Isaac & Sarah [JAMES] Ch. 3. Looking for Simeon Henry James born about 1790 (?) in Virginia. Birth year based on birth date of first child (born in 1818) Simeon Henry married Jane Robertson in Limestone county Alabama. All I have to verify that he was born in Virginia is a biography of his grandson who stated that his grandfather was simeon Henry james of Virginia. Simeon Henry James died about 1826-27. His children were: William Richard James born 1818, Elizabeth James born 1820 and John Napoleon Bonaparte James born 1822. Has anyone run into the name Simeon in a James family. The name Simeon came all the way down the descendents line so perhaps it was a family name before the first simeon I can I.D. Thanks for any help.

    3. This area of Lucas, Iowa was the area where Andrew JAMES family lived. Andrew now lives in Pasco, Washington. His ancestor, Amos Manford JAMES was born in 1855 in McDonough Co., Illinois and married 1879 in Lucas Co, Iowa to Julia Ann Larkin. Amos died in Chariton Twp, Lucas Co, Iowa and is buried in Near Oakley, Lucas Co., Iowa, Mt. Zion Cemetery. This line goes back to a John J(I believe "J" for Jefferson) JAMES (b. 1810 in TN) and Elizabeth WELCH/WELSH, b. 1813 in Kentucky , who married in 1831 in Mehlenberg (now McLean Co, KY). Elizabeth Welch d/o Osias WELCH and Elizabeth ROWLAND. This is a split family but the genealogy is very solid back to Kentucky. It would take a bit of time to find out who this particular C. L. JAMES who married in 1875 was as Andrew has been off line for over a year. I believe I can find out if someone is interested. Linda __________________ Linda M. 3. I found it quite curious that the Document from Orange County, NC ..........wills of records from 1752-1800 and also 1800 -1850 show in March 20 1775,Shrewood PARISH [sic sp], James DICKINGS, and Sherwood JAMES as witnesses to the will of Joseph SUTTON and the estate being proved in favor of Daniel HUGHES, oldest son of Gabriel HUGHES, for love and good will. Gabriel HUGHES executor of will and he is to keep estate in hand until Daniel HUGHES arrives at 21 years of age. [Apparently the father of Daniel is Gabriel and he is under majority in 1775 so his father, said Gabriel is executor and holder of estate until said Daniel reaches age of 21. Perhaps Joseph SUTTON is a relation of or a close friend of the HUGHES family]. August 1793 a Quit-claim-deed from Josua HORN to Jesse JAMES, this Jesse was spouse of {likely the daughter of Joshua HORN} Betsey HORNE. This indicates to me that the family of Sherwood JAMES and Jesse JAMES were in some kind of proximity between 1775 and 1793 unless one or both of them moved elsewhere and out of Orange County boundaries by 1793; perhaps shifts of political control and county governments. __________________ Linda M.
