From: Shirley Norton To: Michael Nelson Hi Michael, The bible records of Rev John James & Margaret Taylor show their first child was William T. James , b. June 13, 1804. The bible records do not show who he married. This James family did live in Ohio CO. KY for awhile. The research of Glen Warren states that this William T. James who married on 7-28-25 may have been the son of the Rev John James and I tend to agree with him. The William James b. 1780, that Jean Schneider gives couldn't be the same William James. My ancestor, Lucy James Withers, sister to William T. James, moved to Indiana where all her children were born. When her husband Fielding Withers died in 1848 or 49, Lucy James Withers moved her family to Coles CO. IL . Jane Campbell, another Withers/James cousin believes she moved to Coles Co IL because she must of had family there. I hope that this answers your question. Let us know how your study on the James twins turns out Take care. Shirley

To Dorsey Roe: I am a descendant of James JAMES. I would very much like to connect with you. Here isi what I have: James JAMES born 1760 in Hamilton Parish, Fauquier Co. VA. Died 1799-1803 (will probated in 1803). Married Mary Cole Speakman who was born 1762 in NC? and who died ca 1820 and is bur. in High Point, at the James-Ratcliff Cemetary, which is the High Point Baptist Church in Moniteau Co. MO. The parents of James are unk. at this time, and, I recently sent for his Rev. War records and what I received was this: James James born 10 Oct. 1746 in Cumberland Co. NC and that he served for a sum of 2 years under Capt. William Wall, John Speed and William Easterling and Colonels Wade and Crawford in the NC troops. Everything else is nearly unreadable, as the documents were hard to copy. I am not so sure this is the right James James, except that the specifications were based on marriage to Mary and land grant on the Barren River. My other family info is as follows: Their children were: i. John James born 18 Jan. 1790, mar in 1812 Rachel Bray and he died 31 May 1887 in High Point, Moniteau Co. MO. This is my ancestor. (Their daughter Lucy James was my GG Grandmother and she married John Rains) ii. Abraham James, born 1792, mar. 1816 to Elizabeth Hall Scott iii Lettie James born in KY? and mar. Caleb Kelly iv. James James born 18 Apr. 1795 and who mar. Sarah Bray on 4 Feb. 1817 v. MaryAnn Bray who mar. ??? Grider vi. Betsey Bray (the first born) born ca. 1788 ando who mar. Daniel Wray James and Mary James of Bourbon Co. KY moved to Green Co. in 1799, they obtained a land grant of 100 acres on the east fork of the Big Barren River in what was then Green Co. This later became Barren Co. and then Monroe Co. in 1820. James died in 1803 leaving Mary with these small children: John, Abraham, Lettie, James and Mary Ann. John, James, Abraham and Caleb and Lettie Kelly came to Cole County MO about 1826 and homsesteaded there near High Point. I believe that Mary Cole Speakman James went with them to MO, and died after 1826, rather than 1820 because I've been told she is buried in MO (I've no documentation of that fact) John, Abraham and James James were among the first settlers of Moniteau CO when the Co was a comparative wilderness and still part of Cole Co. They would go 8-10 miles to a house raising or corn ohusking and travelled to Jefferson City to trade. James' first house was a one room cabin with clapboard roof weighed down with poles and clapboard doors. They wore buckskin trowsers which their fathers made from deer hide and all clothes were homemade. They were among the first to establish the old Double Springs Baptists Church later called the High Point Baptist Church.. The above two paragraphs were from a page from a book, to which was given to me and I don't know its origin. Probably, the history of Moniteau Co. Please contact me, as I have some more info and info on the Brays, and guesses as to James James parents, a connection, possibly to Jesse JameS through Mary Cole Speakman. Descendants including namesake Phillip JAMES, JR. removed to northeast MS by 1845. Yhe son, Phillip, living in Pontotoc Co., MS in 1860. Another son, William, disappears after 1850...Believe this family connected with JAMES families in old Cheraw District, Welsh Neck, SC. This area embraces today's Marlboro County. But the historic Welsh Neck Baptist Church is located in present-day Darlington County (near Society Hill). These Welsh families established a settlement at the Welch Tract in 1737, having migrated there from Delaware. This James line apparently emigrated to the colonies from Pembrokesire, Wales about 1708 to Penn lands in Delaware. Need your help. Thanks! Sherman Jumper"

Have you come across any Daniels? or have more info on the siblings of your Buchanan JAMES, Sr.? Marilee
I am researching the family of Buchanan JAMES of Wilson County. Buchanan James was born in North Carolina c1790 and moved to Statesville, TN about 1810. He married Margaret "Peggy" McMinn Lewis c1815 in TN. They had 13 children: Elizabeth Ann b7/5/1816 (married Dr. Sampson Knight) Daniel b1818 (married Malinda Jennings) Catharine b10/19/1819 (married William Adkins Jennings) Samuel bc1820 (married Martha Gilliam) Enoch Henry b6/1823 (married Eleanor Thomas) Buchanan Jr. bc1824 (married Rachel Ayers) Alvy (my ancestor) b5/2/1827 (married Lucinda Livicie Thomas) Richmond bc1830 (married Amanda Price) Leander bc1832, Martha bc1834 (married Dr. James Neily) Jane bc1836 (married Dave Chambers) Ellen Frances bc1839 (married John Tucker) and Rufus bc1842. Buchanan James, Sr. bought land in Warren County Tennessee on Jan. 16, 1832 from a William James of Warren County. Witnesses were Daniel James, James James, and Lutha James. Buchanan James died c1858. I am trying to determine who Buchanan James (Sr.)'s parents were and where he was born in NC. My James family further extends through Alvy and Livicie (Thomas) James, and their son Elmore "Burr" James, Sr. "Burr" James moved from Statesville to Milton and Murfreesboro (Rutherford County) TN. I first find Abel JAMES born abt. 1812 MD or PA in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH in the 1850 census; living with him are his four daugthers, Anna Maria m. George Washington COX, Rebecca C. m. Henry SWIFT, Sarah and Mary, twins. His wife, Martha LEEDT/LEEDY of Clermont Co. (possibly born in NY), died the year before giving birth to their only son, Joseph, who died on the same day. I cannot find Abel in the next census; two of his daughters are in Pleasant Ridge, Hamilton Co., OH in 1860. Please contact me if you know of this JAMES family. To: Jane Campbell Michael James From: Judy Bankson I think I may have missed some of your prior discussion, but your most recent posts cause me to wonder if either of you have any information about my James family, the earliest I have Nicholas Jams born 1796 in Washington County, Maryland Died Dec 5, 1884 in Crawford County Ohio. His wife was Elizabeth and their children were Jacob, Thomas, and Sarah. Nicholas and Elizabeth are buried in Biddle Cemetery, Sandusky, Ohio. Does the work of either of you take you to these James? Judy Bankson
To: Jane Campbell From: Michael Nelson Hi Jane. Thanks for responding. In response to your response, not so. I have little desire to trace James ancestors back to Adam & Eve, or even much before John 1688. My aim is contemporary, to tie the various branches and lines together. I am having some success at that, with some 4,000 plus names so far, in about 2 years. I have done little (read almost none) independent research, but rely entirely on those dedicated genealogists who have paid their dues pouring over documents, tracing grave markers, and finding information in obscure places, and folks who have a inquisitive bent about their roots. I look for minutiae as it relates; Names, dates, relationships (did you know about all the double cousin marriages, the full, 2nd and 3rd cousin marriages, the intertwining of other families and the unusual number of twins?) and other such fun stuff. I am compiling data from the various sources and comparing one list to another. When I find a discrepancy, my action is to refer it back to the researchers for clarification, I don't (try not to) make judgements about someone's effort and hard work. With that disclaimer, I again ask that you tell me about your branch of the James. Yours in friendship, Michael
David, I saw a connection between your last name and the JAMES you're looking for. I'm trying to find a JAMES-PAYNE (various spellings)-CONNOLLY combination. Unk. PAYNE (husband) m. Unk. JAMES (wife) in the early 1700s, probably VA or a nearby state. Their daughter, Unk. PAYNE, m. Unk. CONNOLLY. From this union came my ggg-grandfather, Cyrus Payne CONNOLLY, b. VA ca. 1777, moved to Burke Co., NC ca. 1797. Cyrus P. CONNOLLY m. Elizabeth CALLICOTT ca. 1800 in Burke Co., NC. Her parents were Unk. CALLICOTT and Unk. JAMES. Would love to know if any of this looks familiar! Ruth Ann
My JAMES line encompasses about 3,000 + descendants starting in 1650 Colonial Virginia, Culepeper County. Without doing an audit there are at least 15 sets of twins among these James descendants. I've always thought this an unusually high incidence, but have no actual scientific data upon which to access the probability factor. My line is not related to the line under discussion. However, having monitored the discussion of the JOHN JAMES & CHRISTOPHER JAMES lines being discussed, I strongly suspect both their line and my line are probably interrelated at some time 1650-1775 Virginia. My line is the line of JOHN JAMES & DINAH ALLEN previously discussed. ERIC JAMES DANA POINT, CA
