    1. [JAMES-L] Greenberry and Burrell B. James
    2. Greenberry James was the father of Burrell B. and Abel James. Greenberry was born ca 1805 in GA. His wife Tinney was b. ca 1808 in MS. Burrell B. was b. in AL in 1828, Abel a few years later. Burrell married Sarah Jane Humphrey in Monroe Co. AL on 8/16/1853. They moved to Clarke Co., MS before 1860, but Greenberry had apparently died by then. Burrell served in the CSA. His daughter Elizabeth Fidelia James married T.J. Hardee in 1880 in Clarke Co. The 1860 census is the last sign of Burrell, Sarah Jane, or their three sons, one of whom was named Frank. Another daughter married T.J. Hardee's son, James. A third daughter, Annie, married an Ellison. She died in San Antonio after 1959. This family is my brick wall. I hope this rings a bell with someone out there. Judy Bethea in New Orleans

    1. [JAMES-L] William James 1711
    2. To: Michael Nelson, Fullerton, CA From: Mary Chandler, Waco, TX Hi Michael, First, please let me apologize for my typos--I didn't proof-read very carefully. The book, "History of Williamsburg" is by William Willis BODDIE. FTM stands for Family Tree Maker--it is the software program that I use to organize my tree and they have CDs that you can purchase that have various types of information. Census, Births, Deaths, Marriages, Land Records, GED- COMs, etc. They have a website: http://www.familytreemaker.com/ The GED-COMs are on what they call Family Tree Works CDs. Each CD is a different Volume. Researchers can submit their GED-COM or family tree and it will be put on the next CD that they record. Some of the trees are well documented, but most are not. Some Public Libraries have these CDs in their Genealogical Dept. IGI is the collection of International Genealogical Information from the Morman Church in Salt Lake City, Utah. I found it at my Public Library in the Genealogical Dept. It is on microfisch film and is separated into different countries and different states in the US. Then each country or state has the different surnames listed in alphabetical order. The Church lists this information without checking for its accuracy, but it helps the researcher know where to look for documentation. It lists births, deaths, marriages, census, wills and christenings. I do not have a copy of the will of William James yet, but according to WFT Vol. 1, #5830, the will was "dated July 09, 1750 and can be found in the Will Book 1747-1752 and the will was processed January 18, 1749/50 and can be found on page 393." I shall attempt to get a copy the next time I go to the library. I have made copies from the book "Early Pee Dee Settlers" by John M. Gregg pertaining to the surnames that I am researching. There is several pages on the surname JAMES and I will type them and hopefully get them out on the list tomorrow. [email protected] Mary Chandler Waco, TX -------------------- [email protected] writes: << To: Mary Chandler, Waco, TX From: Michael Nelson, Fullerton CA Hi Mary. You put on the James rootsweb list a genealogy which ended by saying "...None of this is documented, sorry to say, and I welcome any additions or corrections. I obtained most of the information from 'History of Williamsburg' by Wm. Willis Bodde and the rest from FTM, IGI and the message boards." I am not a genealogist, so I don't know what "FTM" or "IGI" are. Please tell me what they are and how I can look at them. You also mentioned a "...Will written 07/09/1749, probated 01/18/1750..." for William James b(1711) d(ca1750) Williamsburg, Craven Co SC. Do you have a copy or have you seen it? Thanks for your time. 2. Elizabeth F. Randolph
    3. To Sarah Jane McKenize You might think this is a little far fetched but I do know there was a Bailey/James connection in St. Mary's Co., MD. A William James and John Bailey sold tracts of land "Assurance" and "Yieldingsbury" in St. Mary's Co. to Philip Key on 3 Aug 1725. Both these tracts were formerly the property of a BAYLEY. I don't know William James' connection, perhaps he married a Bailey. I realize this is too early to have been your William JAMES but might have been his father. My JAMES family was from Northumberland Co., VA, which is across the bay from Maryland. Since I think they were Catholic, I did a little Maryland research and found above. Had hopes that this was my William James but perhaps he was yours. 3. Dear Fellow Searchers, I am searching for information on parents, children and siblings of Bartlett JAMES (born circa 1770 in VA, died 1845 in Smith Co, TN) and Sarah "Sally" ROLINGS (born circa 1769 in VA, died circa 1855 in Smith Co, TN). They were married 16 March 1791 in Halifax Co, VA. They also lived in Montgomery Co, NC. Their son Daniel JAMES (b circa 1799 in NC, d Jan 1854 in Crittenden Co, KY) and his wife Sarah (Unk)(b circa 1802 in NC, d 2 Oct 1869 in Crittenden Co, KY)were my gr gr gr gr grandparents. I believe Bartlett's father was Hugh (or Huke?) Thomas JAMES (b in ?VA, d in ?VA, m in VA). His mother is unknown. I believe Sally ROLINGS (also spelled RAWLINS) was the daughter of John ROLINGS (b in ?VA, d 1803 in Charlotte Co, VA) and Sarah "Sally" (Unk). John's father was William RAWLINS/ROLINGS (married before 1740 in ?VA), but his mother's name is unknown. I would be most grateful for your help in finding more information on my grandparents. I have other information to share. Thank you for your interest and help! Sue James Lloyd The Woodlands, Texas

    1. [JAMES-L] Israel James and John of Liverpool
    2. Steve Roper
    3. These families are mine...not Israel, but his older brother Phillip. I do not have a list of children for Israel, nor a list for Phillip and his wife Phebe Long...I have a partial list for Phillip which I believe to be true but have no hard proof for. The line to Liverpool I have is this: (please anyone with input, would greatly appreciate it) Roger James "of Yonger" and wife Alice Marks married in 1632 in West Lavington, Wiltshire Roger II was christened 18 May 1646 in West Lavington and is believed to have married Ann Mercer c1680, and died 1705. 2 children: John and Elener John chr 1682 at St Nicholas, Liverpool wife unknown John II chr 1708 St Nicholas married 14 July 1722 Isabel Moon John III born in Liverpool 12 Nov 1729 at Kirkby, Ireleth, Lancashire died June 1800 in Richmond Co NC. Traditionally (ie without proof) he is said to have married #1 Roseanne Martin #2 Leah unknown. Leah is a positive...she was named as his wife in hs will...however, deed records in Richmond for this JOHN list a wife named TOBYTHA. I have found no documentation for Roseanne Martin. If anyone has it, please share. This John was in the Rev War from Wilmington Dist NC, his children were John, James, Phillip, Elizabeth. It is unclear which wife belongs with which child. James and John were in the Revolution. James had a pension app in Cumberland Co NC and he later went to South Carolina where he died after 17 Apr 1833. His wife was Mary Holmes. Phillip was born c1760 and married #1 Sarah Watkins #2 Frances Webb. He had a son who went to MS, who was Phillip Marcellus James of Wayne and Greene Co MS. Elizabeth was either Elizabeth Wheeler James or Elizabeth Phebe James...in her father's will it looks clearly like PHEBE but in deeds it looks clearly like WHEELER. John, the last child, was born 1750 and died 1794/5. He left a will in Richmond Co NC also. His wife has been traditionally said to be Mary PIERCE, who he married c 1770. They were the parents of 8 children. These 8 names and dates of birth come from a DAR record...I am making an ASSUMPTION that they come from a bible record because no source was included on the Dar record: PHILLIP (my line) b 19 Apr 1771 maried Phebe Long John 4 Dec 1773-1855 Grant CO IN m Mary Snead Robert 16 May 1776 died unmarried in Richmond Co NC 1795, left a will leaving property to brothers Nancy b 3 Apr 1778 m 6 June 1799 John Webb William b 13 Dec 1779 m Anne Parker Israel b 3 Sept 1783 m Pharoba Morris Martin b 1 May 1785 m Patsy Woodhall Champness Pierce b 13 July 1792 m Patsy Herron My line from Phillip is John James b 1792 Richmond Co NC died 1865 in Jasper Co MS. His wife was NANCY maiden unknown., 2nd wife Charity. He had 3 brothers in Jasper: Robert, Phillip H and William. He was in the War of 1812 and got land in Jasper for that. He went from NC to TN to MS. His son Robert W James, my ancestor was born in TN between 1831-5. Other researchers of the 4 Jasper Co brothers have said they believe that Phillip's younger brother JOHN was the father of these men but I disagree. john would have been 19 when the eldest was born, certainly not inpossible, but census records for PHILLIP show children of the exact ages of the 4 brothers in his house. Also, Phillip moved to Wayne Co MS, and 2 of his sons are documented there before going over to Jasper. I would welcome input from anyone about any segment of this line. i do not have proof for it all. Regina Roper

    3. Hi, I am caught up in the sudden tons of information about the JAMES family of Pembrokeshire. I am now wondering where my line fits into this. I am descended from a Levi James born 1715 in Pembrokeshire who came to the US in 1745 (I have not found his ship yet) with his wife Mary. He had a son Joseph born on board the ship on the way here. The first name of William appears almost every generation. Levi is also common in my line and Mary as well. Can anyone tell me how to find out if I connect to this line that is being discussed and how I fit into it? Levi settled first in Chester Co. PA but the line eventually settled in Loudoun Co. VA and from there a branch went to Ohio (mine) and Illinoise etc. as a group became steamboat company owners. Any help with this would be appreciated. Valerie Johnson
