Hi, I am trying to trace my James roots also. I have gone back to my great great grandad- Joseph James. He was listed in the 1850 Graves Co. KY cenus with wife Elizabeth Sublett and their children. I have no idea who his parents were. He was born about 1807 and information contained in there as being born in KY. He had the following children listed on that census as Sally age 15, would have been born 1835 Phoebe age 13 1837 Nancy 11 1839 Catherine 9 1841 Barbara 7 1843 Elizatheth 3 1847 John 11(twin??to Nancy??) 1839 Joseph 5 1845 on the 1860 census the children listed with Joseph and Elizabeth were Nancy 21 Miranda 20 Barbara 17 Josehp A. 15 farmer Elizabeth A. 13 Washington 4 ANY help would be greatly appreciated! Frank JAMES, died in Sangamon Co, IL c 1910. Left widow Elizabeth (nee Boothby) and 2 children MaeBelle and Floyd. Anyone researching this family? I have hit a brick wall. Where was Frank from? When was he born? Who were his parents? Where is he buried? He was quite poor. Is there a cemetery index for Sangamon County?
To: References: 1 To: Anthony & Julie Kolb From: Michael Nelson Re: Joseph James b(ca1807) m() Elizabeth Sublett I came close, but no cig... wait a minute, I shouldn't use that phrase with Mr Clinton's spinoff so recent... close, but not a winner. Doesn't sound the same. In the John James 1750 family tree we maintain, we have: 2. son Joseph James b(05 Feb 1791) VA d(17 May 1866) Ohio Co KY m(03 Oct 1822) Elizabeth Rogers b(17 May 1809) d(07 Sep 1882) Ohio Co KY that's as close as I can get, but no Sublett surname at all. Mary and Jennifer: Regarding the Pee Dee James', early settlers; from the data I have which was compiled by Kenneth McIver James, the James who came to the Pee Dee basin in 1732 went up the Black River from Winyah Bay at what is now Georgetown to an exceptionally tall tree on the river bank, in what is now Williamsburg County. They called the tall tree the King's Tree, and settled in that vicinity. The town of Kingstree is now at that location. Lucas James
I made a mistake while listing the children of Thomas C and Molly Downey JAMES from Germany. Their nine children were: William, Elizabeth, Hannah, Nancy, Betsy, Pop, Mary, Unknown, Thomas H. The children listed in the prior post were the children born to William and Elizabeth McMullen JAMES. Robin
