Hi all, Our Electric CO-OP sends out monthly magazines and in the January 1999 issue is a story, Titled "Jesse James was my Great Grandfather, a Missing arm points to the real Jesse James", by Betty Dorsett Duke. She has also just published a book, " Jessie James lived and died in Texas" published by Eakin Press. As all of us with James in our families, have probably heard that we were somehow related to the famous Jesse James. I know our family stories say so, but I have not been able to find any connections at all. Betty Dorsett Duke writes this was so in her family but that she has proof that her great Grandfather James Lafayette Courtney was really Jesse James. He came to Texas in 1871 and settled in Falls County, farming community of Blevins, Near Eddy in Central Texas. He married Mary Ellen Barron the daughter of a Texas Ranger, Captain Thomas Hudson Barron. They had eight children, one of whom was her grandmother. He lived to be 96 years of age and died April 15, 1943 in Blevins where he is buried. Her article lists the reason's why James Starr research and conclusions are incorrect. Has anyone read her book yet or seen the pictures? Just more Questions, -- /*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\ Sharon Ivy [email protected] P.O. I am trying to find/connect my Joseph James b 1805-1878 born in Henry Co KY who married Elizabeth "Betsy" Sublett-1808-1870 (have her Subletts back to Sedan France 1700)April 15, 1828- believe also Henry Co KY. Seems his dad was Thomas JAmes 1757-1836 and he married Sarah CLARK ?-1869 they married Feb 5,1828 in Mercer Co. Ky. Have pension applications on this gentleman who served in the American Revolution and the Indian Wars. In 1805 they had approximately 3 children the oldest being perhaps 4-6 yrs old. THey ended up with 14 total. He was partially scalped in the Indian Wars and recieved a pension. He died in Henry Co in 1836. In the 1840 cenus in Graves Co. KY there is a Thomas James but no Joseph, but in 1850 Joseph and his wife and I believe 9 kids are listed. Guessing that this Thomas was a brother to Joseph. Sarah stayed in Henry County and died there. They had a daughter Nancy James, and a daughter -may be twin to Joseph named Mary Ann who married a Deninger(spelling) found a decendant of Mary Ann on here. Thomas was orginially with a Pennsyvania militia unit believe to be Unit 4?
To: Ann T. Morton We are compiling a 1. son John James b(1750 VA) d(24 Sep 1819 Beaver Dam KY) and progeny family tree. We have 4,579 descendants in the tree today. We will be pleased to share any of that data, should you or yours want it. Our focus is comprehensive (if that is not an acronym) and our goal is to link the many branches so that folks can have an overview of relationships. This may have already been posted before, but for those of you who believe your family may have originated in New England and then moved out into the US, there is a James Family Association being formed in New Hampshire, and genealogists are working on all the James family descendants. These James came from England in the 1600's, settled in New Hampshire in the very early 1700's and moved out from there.. The genealogist contact for this is Ann Morton. Her contact info is: Ann T. Morton 314 High St Hampton, NH 03842 603 926-0112 E-mail: [email protected] I don't think she's on rootsweb, and her focus is this particular family, but she's done an enormous amount of work seeking descendants and trying to connect them to present day. If you believe you're connected back to the NE, you may want to contact her.
I have another question on the James family of Frank and Jesse. Does anyone have any information on Jesse and Frank's Grandfather's siblings? I'm especially looking for information on Thomas James (1783). Thank you for any help you can give me on this. Sincerely, Jan James [email protected]

Greetings, I'm still trying to find out who Reden Norton James father was. Since all stories in the family say that he was related to Jesse and Frank James I'm still working on the theory that Reden's father is possibly one of Jesse and Frank's Uncles??? Does anyone know of the family of William James, brother to Robert Sallee James (Jesse and Frank's father)? Sincerely, Jan James [email protected]
