Hello List!! I am interested in information about all males born in PA in the late 1700's (1750- 1800). I am sorry that I can't limit it to just a region. I am trying to connect by "brick-wall" relative to his father who was born in PA (and mother born in MD) according to the 1850 Nebraska, Merrick County, Clarksville Township. His son is Joshua JAMES and he was born in Maryland on 13 Oct 1811. I don't have any information that would be able to tie him to anything in the East. Joshua JAMES marrried a Kathryn BROWN born 12 Mar 1820 who was also born in Maryland. His daughter, Catherine Amanda JAMES was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland on 23, Dec 1863. At the age of three (1866) she moved with her parents to Fort Wayne, Indiana. When she was 14 years old (1877) they moved by Wagon to Nebraska locating near Clarks (according to her obituary). They ran the Grist Mill in Silver Creek, Nebraska. I don't know if this profession would tie into another family that would be familiar with grist mills or have family as grist mill owners/operators. I would be really appreciative to any response to anybody about any relative that they have in the same time period in PA. I have read some information lately on the List and have sent messages to some people off and on the list. I don't always receive a response which is somewhat disappointing. Thanks in advance for any information. Sincerely, Megan Ferris Lincoln, NE

To Thurston and all, Thanks to all the great replies I got in response my query on Frank and Jesse JAMES in the WBtS. This list is as great as the CAGLE list I am on. Some of the other lists... well, let's not mention any names! :) The William JAMES I was asking about was William A JAMES, sorry I left the middle initial out. ( Don't think William Weyth James will be the right one) Through family correspondence William A. was said to be a cousin to Calvin JAMES and his sister, my gg-grandmother, Annn Julia "Juley" JAMES. As I have been sorting through much new material (Thanks Mom!) I have been trying to get unanswered questions answered. I have already been enlightened and made a connection on the list to Jean. Wish all of my family lines produced such results. I do know my JAMES were in GA and Juley later moved to Al with her husband, Robert W GRANGER. I have Calvin and Juley on an 1850 Meriwether Co GA census. Now, does anyone know Hampton JAMES on the same 1850 census in the household of Nancy, Calvin and Juley ? I am searching for the ancestors of Jane Jameson. The only information I have is that she married Evan McBrier on 8/24/1874 in Copiah Co, Ms. One of their children was Lottie McBrier (1876-1940). Lottie married Henry Madison Thedford on 9/4/1890 and they lived in Clariborne Co, Ms near Hermanville, Ms. If you have any information on this line of Jameson's, I would be most interested to hear from you. Steve Smith Baton Rouge, La [email protected]
I am searching for ancestors and descendants of Martha James (1806-1830). Information I have on her is that she may have been Choctaw Indian. Her father may have been one of the Choctaw Indian Chief's that signed the "Dancing Rabbit Treaty". Martha was over 18 at the time of her marriage and was born no later than 1806. Martha married James Scott on 12/25/1824 in Clariborne Co, Ms. Martha's children were Robert and Elizabeth Scott. Martha died between 1830 and 1835. Elizabeth later married George W. Goza in Copiah Co, Ms in 1855. If you have any information on Martha, I would be most interested to hear from you. Steve Smith Baton Rouge, La [email protected]
They are not my family so I don't have a lot of information but I happen to have a transcription of the will of Francis James from the King George Co, VA will book A-1 dated Oct 24, 1717, in which he bequethed land to his son Sherwood James. V33 of the Virginia Historical Magazine also has about a one page discussion of the James, Sherwood and Taliaferro families. In part it states "Francis James died in King George Co in 1721, leaving a widow, Margaret, two sons, Francis and Sherwood, and a daughter Jane. In his will, written Oct 24 1717, he names his sister-in-law Martha Marshall. There is some evidence that this Martha Marshall was the widow of Thomas Marshall, the great grandfather of the Chief Justice; and the late Henry Strother stated that the wife of Thomas Marshall was Martha Sherwood. Indications would point, then, to the wife of Francis James having been Margaret Sherwood." There is more, if you have not seen this and are interested.
