Seeking any family info on PHILIP JAMES SR, born est 1785 SC???/NC???,(Philip James entry, 1820 U. S. Census, Sheet 263 , Warren County, Georgia, Captain Loyless District, Philip died before 1840 in Autauga County, Alabama. He married SARAH "SALLIE MARGARET" WINDHAM 13 February 1812 in Warren County, Georgia. Sarah was born 13 March 1791 in Tennessee. Sarah was the daughter of William Windham and Nancy Jane [Runnels???]. Sarah died 28 July 1869 in Tishomingo County, Mississippi, at 78 years of age. Sarah and Phillip were reportedly first cousins. The couple removed to Alabama after 1820 and settled in Coosa County. Based on the 1820 Warren County, Georgia Census, we estimate Philip James was probably born about 1785. But, Philip could have been born anytime between 1775 and 1794, since he was listed in the broad age category of 26 to 45. Listed as head of household, Philip had seven other persons living with him, including his wife Sarah"Sallie Margaret" WINDHAM. Following a review of subsequent census information, we believe she was born about 1792 in Tennessee to William Windham and his wife Nancy Jane. "Sallie" migrated with her family from Grainger County, Tennessee to Georgia before 1809. The other members of the household included two males under 16 and four females under ten. The ages of the children seem to fit with what we know about this family. Philip and his family were living in Captain Loyless District and as in the case of most of his neighbors, Philip was engaged in farming. Living almost next door to Philip was James JAMES, who we believe was a native of South Carolina, and reportedly a descendant of the Welch Neck founder, the elder James James. We believe it is possible that Philip and his neighbor James James were closely related, possibly brothers, or cousins. Philip removed his family to Autauga County, Alabama before 1830. He apparently died before 1840 in some type of epidemic. Philip James Sr. and Sarah "Sallie Margaret" Windham had the following children: i. BETTY/ElIZABETH was born in Warren County, Georgia before 1812 . She married MIKE FREEMAN 19 November 1840 in Coosa County, Alabama ii. WILLIAM was born in Warren County, Georgia about 1814. 2 iii. SARAH was born October 1817. 3 iv. NANCY was born October 1817. 4 v. ELIZA was born 25 January 1820. vi. PHILLIP, Jr. was born circa 1821. Phillip was killed in Rocky Ford, or Etta, Union County, Mississippi about 1860 He married MARY M. WINDHAM 20 March 1841 in Prattville, Coosa County, Alabama.

Mother Mary died 1878, a few weeks prior to Elmer's 18th birthday, but he (Elmer) had left home a few weeks prior and could not be located. William JAMES was son of Henry JAMES & Abigail Davis JAMES, also of Bloomingville, Erie County, Ohio. I've traced our James family back to William James (b. abt 1750 Wales; m. Jane Williams Oct. 1, 1772 VA; d. Sept. 30, 1804 OH). Their 10 children were all born in Loudoun County, Virginia. I am Michael Nelson, 1336 Carleton Way, Fullerton CA Shirttail relative of John James 1750 (wife Wilma's maiden name was James) My interest is in any descendants of John 1750. We put together an annual Extended JAMES family tree, the "Family News" publishes it each January.

Hi, I am fairly new to fairly new this list. Looking for info on my gr grandfather, John Lacy JAMES, b. March 16, 1878, d. Aug. 12, 1967 in the Nance Nursing Home, Paducah, McCracken Co., KY, at the age of 89. He was married to Eunice __?__, b. ?, d. 1923. He had three known sons: Robert JAMES John Edward JAMES, b.
