I am looking for parents and siblings of Rachel (JAMES) POWELL and Anna (JAMES) CARY, who were both born in Claiborne Co., TN and ended up in Lafayette Co., MO. Rachel and her husband Richard POWELL were married in Claiborne Co., and both died in Lafayette Co., but some of their children married CARYs and/or went to Oregon. I already knew of a CARY/LYNCH connection, didn't know there was also a JAMES/LYNCH connection. Anna (JAMES) CARY was born 9 Mar 1807 in Claiborne Co., married Armenius CARY 27 Nov 1825 in Lafayette Co., MO and died 13 Dec 1884 in Crawfordsville, Linn Co., OR. Armenius's sister Sarah Ann CARY married David LYNCH; I am told this was in Claiborne Co., TN. David LYNCH died in Jackson Co., MO in 1834. I do not know if Armenius and Anna CARY attended Lone Jack Baptist Church, but I know that Armenius's mother, Rebecca (BUTLER) CARY, was a member there. I believe that Berry JAMES's wife was Piety ROSS, from Lafayette Co. land records that I have examined. Based on a very brief telephone conversation with a Berry JAMES descendant, I feel that he may be a brother of Anna. A list of Berry's children might be helpful, but I have been unable to get one as of yet. Can you help me? I will be writing to you separately off-list, but am posting this message to the list just in case there may be others who connect. Susan Molye <[email protected]>

    3. My Jameses in Southampton Cnty,VA are fit to be made into a mystery novel. My GGGF James James(birth place and date unk)m Sarah Harrison(b1821 Southampton Cnty)in Southampton Cnty in 1838. The 1840 census shows a James James residence in Southampton County with persons who could be the right ones. However, the 1850 census shows Sarah living with her mother, Catherine Harrison b 1800. James & Sarah had four children(all males): Nathaniel b 1840, Benjamin Allen b 1843, James Edwin b ca1845(my GGF) and Joshua Cummings b 1846. All were b in Southampton Cnty but Joshua b in NC. The only time I have found a record of James & Sarah living together was the 1840 census. Also I have never found a record of my GGF James Edwin living with the rest of the family either. There are lots of business transactions in that county involving James James and he was around enough to father children but Sarah lived with her mother, her children and Sarah's Harrison siblings. James James had a brother there in Southampton Cnty named Mark James. Other than that I don't know of any other definite James relations. My GGF James Edwin James was in the Civil War as a Confederate, went home to VA and soon left due to a family disagreement. He wound up in Johnson County in southern Illinois where he married Eliza Drucilla Marberry ca1875. The father James James seems to have disappeared ca1850. Why did this father and son not live with the rest of the family? How did James Edwin James happen to go to that specific spot in southern Illinois? All help will be gratefully accepted. Boice Burns

    3. Hi! I have James connection too from Wales. But what really caught my eyes was Carmarthershire, South Wales. My Williams line comes from there. William Williams and wife Elizabeth Jones had son Nathanial J. Williams b. 25 Dec. 1837 in Carmarthashire, south Wales. I have that my James line starts with David James from the Parish of Slandesley, Glascum in Rodnorshire, Wales. 3. I am seeking the birth place and parents of my gggrandfather Thomas JAMES. He married Rachel PHILLIP(S) April 29, 1810 in Llanwinio parish, Carmarthenshire, Wales. They had a son Jonah JAMES baptised 1810 and a daughter Sarah, baptised 1812. Both baptisms in BT's for Llanwinio parish. These four came to Nova Scotia and then on to Maine, USA. I would like to make a connection with family who may have remained in Wales. Jean (JAMES) Brown [email protected]
