    3. Many, many thanks to CJ of NC for her help in leading me to court records listing my ancestors, Bartlett James and his parents Thomas and Sarah James in Charlotte Co, VA. With this information, I am now asking for your help in checking your data bases for the following names in the southern VA/NC area in mid 1700's to early-mid 1800's: THOMAS JAMES (property owner/died intestate) SARAH (unk. maiden name) (second husband=James DAVIS) THOMAS HUGH JAMES JOHN JAMES GEORGE (Thomas?) JAMES SARAH JAMES (married John CALLIOTTE) BARTLETT ("Barkley") JAMES (married Sarah RAWLINS) I am searching for information on the wife, parents, children and siblings of THOMAS JAMES, who died intestate before 4 Mar 1793 in Charlotte Co, VA. Thomas James' wife was SARAH, who married James DAVIS after Thomas' death. Court records show Thomas and Sarah's children to be THOMAS HUGH JAMES, JOHN JAMES, GEORGE JAMES, SARAH JAMES (who married JOHN CALLICOTTE) and BARTLETT ("BARKLEY", an infant at the time of Thomas James' death, under the guardianship of JOHN RAWLINS). Bartlett James and his wife Sarah Rawlins James (daughter of John Rawlins, Bartlett's guardian) later lived and owned property in Montgomery Co, NC and Smith Co, TN. If you have information about any of these people, please contact me. I have information to share. I will be so grateful for your help! Best regards, Sue James Lloyd The Woodlands, Texas

    3. Here also is a write-up in one of the histories locally which states that 2 of William and Jane's 10 children preceded their father in death: Portrait and Biographical Album of Green and Clark Counties, Ohio, published by Chapman Bros. of Chicago, 1890, pg 661. John C. James. Among the many valuable farms . . . A few words regarding the ancestors of Mr. James will not be amiss, before proceeding with his own life history. His grandfather was William James, a native of Wales, who was brought to America when three years of age, and lived in Loudoun County, Va., until 1801. On October 1, 1772, he married Miss Jane Williams, who bore him ten children, not one of whom is now living, although eight survived his own death. In the year above mentioned, he and his family came to the Buckeye State, settling in the northern part of Warren County, where he remained until his death. That event took place at Columbia, September 30, 1804, in the fifty-fourth year of his age. His wife survived him reaching the extreme age of ninety-four years. The oldest member of the family and William and Jane James was born in Loudoun County, Va., November 11, 1773, and was christened John. He came with the other members of the parental household to Ohio, and was the first member of the family to locate in Greene County. He came hence in 1808, settling on the northwest quarter of section 35, Sugar Creek Township, where he built a log cabin and opened up a good farm. 1. Re: [JAMES-L] William JAMES born to William JAMES and Jane Williams
    2. Johnita P. Malone
    3. William James and Jane Williams did supposedly have a son born 1779 but since he is not mentioned in his father's will, I am not sure that he was living at the time when his father died. I have a copy of that will which I ordered from Warren Co., OH. I would like to think that my ancestor, Joel James, is somehow connected to this family also but can't seem to prove it. My Joel James was born about 1796 in Augusta Co., VA., and this family did supposedly go through Augusta Co., VA. Descendants are also in Warren Co., IN., where I first find my Joel James. William James, husband of Jane Williams, died in 1804. Of course, William James, b. 1779, would have been an adult by this time but I never find him in any of the local records. (I live in Greene Co., OH., which borders on Warren Co., OH. Some of these Jameses were buried in Bellbrook, OH., which is the neighboring town of the town where I live Beavercreek, OH.) Here is a transcribed copy of William's will: Warren Co., OH., Probate Court Records, Will of William James. I William James a citizen of the United States and an inhabitant of Hamilton County in the Territory of the United States northwest of the River Ohio, do make and ordain, and declare this instrument of writting to be my last will and testament in manner following, To wit, To my beloved wife for her support as hereafter willed and provided for, First I will and devise to my four sons, John, Richard, Jonathan and David their heirs and assigns forever all the land I hold & possess being the half of a section whereon I now live to be equally divided between them in manner following, To my son John one fourth part of the above section of land to be laid off of the west and by a line north & south paralel to the north & south line on the west end of said tract. To my son Jonathan one fourth part of said half section adjoining to, and on the East of the part devised to my son John to be likewise bounded on the East by a line north and South paralel to the other north & south lines and with intent and for the purpose of makeing the east half of said half section equal in quality and quantity, my will is that the same be equally divided in quantity by a line eastward and westward to run paralel with the eastward and westward lines of said tract. To my son Richard the one fourth part of said half section lying south of said Division line and in the southeast corner of said half section to join Jonathan's part on the west. To my son David the one fourth part of said half section lying north of the part devised to my son Richard and east of part of Jonathan's devise adjoining the northeast corner of the half Sct shall be subject to the following reservations of dower to and for the support of my wife and for all the purposes herein after named in manner specified and reserved. I will to my wife for her support during her natural life twenty acres of land off of the part devised to my son Jonathan so as to include the mansion house, also, twenty acres off of each of the parts devised to my three sons, John, Richard and David to be laid off in the nearest adjoining the part laid off of Jonathan's parts. And further for her support I will to my said wife all my stock of creatures of every description, implements for farming houshold goods, except what is herein after otherwise willed, to be by her disposed as she shall think proper. I will all my books to be equally divided among the whole of my children except such as my wife shall think proper to keep. To my four daughters, Rachel, Ann, Sarah and Jane, I bequeath each of them one feather bed and furniture, also, my will is that my wife alow each of my two sons John and Jonathan the privilege of raising each of them a colt from my two mares at this time with foal and likewise that my wife do provide for my son David a horse creature when he comes of age. Further my will particularly is that my wife and children do pay particular attention to and amply provide for the support and comfort of my aged mother. Likewise I will that all money due to me from Virginia and in said county of Hamilton be collected by my wife and applyed for the purpose of payment of the lands I live on as the same becomes due, and also, I will that all my surveying instruments shall be sold and the money applyed for the payment of the said lands afforesaid. And to the end that my daughters may not be destitute of a home which may happen by the death of my wife, My will is that provided my wife should decease before my youngest daughter arrives to the age of twenty one years of age and being unmaried or so many of them as shall continue unmarried until that periond(?) and shall be disposed to live together in a single state, Shall possess and enjoy my mansion house and the lands willed to my wife as her dower untill the time that my said youngest daughter shall or should have arived at the age of twenty one years of age, and Lastly, in order that this my last will & testament be carried into effect after my decease I hereby (several illegible words) or such person or persons as she shall employ to do & execute every part thereof, and pay all my just debts, and that there shall be neither appraisement of my estate nor administration entered into, But that this instrument of writing containing my last will & testament be proved and recorded according to law I the said William James do hereby sign seal and declare this and this only as my last will and testment this 25th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & three 1803. Signed: Wm James. Wits., David Faulkner and Absalom Thomas. Johnita Valerie wrote: > > I have a William James of Loudoun Co. that I have no wife or children > details for.
