    1. [JAHNKE] Iowa Jahnke's, specifically descendants of August F. and Armetta
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: melissahillstrom Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jahnke/257/mb.ashx Message Board Post: August and Armetta are my Great Great grandparents. I know some about some of their kids but I would love to know more. Last I see of Fred Jahnke was 1930 census in Iowa State Penitentiary. What was he there for? Family rumor is murder? I believe he was married at one point and had a son, Ernest? Last I see of Geeter was Sioux City, Nebraska 1930 and he was married to a gal named Rocella (Rebecca?) He was previously married to Matilda Wise and had at least two children, Ellisworth and Ruth. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! 1. [JAHNKE] Kathryn (Jahncke) Murphy and her son Michael Murphy
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: dj6ual23 Surnames: Jahncke, Murphy, Tanous, Sears Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jahnke/255/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for information on Kathryn (Jahncke) Murphy and her son Michael Murphy. Michael is my half brother. Our biological father is Michael (Paul) Douglas Murphy. According to my father Kathryn and Michael passed away in a plane crash. Kathy was flying a small Cessna from California (or Washington State) to Alaska to meet my father on route, he was working as a truck driver, when their plane was hit by a bird causing them to crash into the Pacific Ocean. The crash may have happened in California, Oregon, Canada, or Alaska waters. Details are unclear. Both Kathy and Michael were supposedly buried (or their ashes were buried) in Ireland. Maybe Dublin, Ireland. The details are unclear. I have found some information (records) here on Ancestry, but the dates do not add up. My father re-married after Kathryn died and had more children. One of the children from that union has the name Kathryn in her honor. The records on Ancestry has my dad marrying Kathryn one year before his daughter with another woman is born. The records also have Michael born in the same year as his daughter Kathryn. Michael (Paul) Douglas Murphy was married at least once before he was married to Kathryn, to Susan Ester (Crouch) Murphy. This is my mother. Michael (Paul) Douglas Murphy remarried after Kathryn's death to Connie Lynn (Sears) Murphy on 08 July 1978. Their daughter Kathryn Ann Murphy was born 09 Apr 1980, their is also another child from this marriage. Author: jamesrhillman44 Surnames: Jahnke Classification: immigration Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jahnke/252/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have just learned through research at the US Library of Congress the following information. Some of what I posted earlier is in error. Information from Max about his entry into the US came from his Naturalization form which was done in 1941, 48 years after he arrived, and his memory was faulty as he was only 7 years old at the time. Herman alone came to the US in 1892 arriving on July 22, 1892 traveling from Hamburg on 30 June, on the Augusta to England. From there he departed from Southampton on the Victoria, arriving in the US at the Port of New york. His wife Ida and the five children traveled to the US in May 1893, not '94. Their ship was the Wandrahm, and it was not sunk, but ran aground off Apple Island near the city of Quebec on May 16th, and from there it was towed to Brooklyn, New York, arriving on May 23rd, using the date that Max had on his paperwork. Rather than Adolph and Martha coming to Chicago with him in 1892, they all arrived together some time in late May, early June 1893. (An article about the events surrounding the controversial method of towing the ship are published in the New York Times of July 28, 1893, and include information about the towing ship, the tug tender, and the travails of the travel. What is not clear at this time is whether or not the passengers were off-loaded in Quebec, or continued on the ship to New York as it was being towed. More to come on that later.) Author: iamjahnke Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jahnke/247.1.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: hi Lorna, My great, great Grandfather Leonard Jahnke was born in 1860 and moved to Winthrop, Minnesota. They immigrated to Canada in 1902, arriving at Grenfell, Saskatchewan. Their homestead was about 1 mile easy of Killaly, Sask. There was an A&J Jahnke dry goods story in Killaly, and Arthur was the A and Julius was the J. I believe they were Leonard's sons (so my great grandfathers ... my grandfather's father?). I'm just starting to learn a lot more about all of this. My father was born in the early 1950's in Windsor, ON. His uncle is still alive living in Vancouver, BC and apparently has a lot of the extended family history. I've got some photos from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Will be scanning soon and uploading, if you're interested. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Then you will get a "translated" website to review ("translated" because it will be far from perfect and perhaps have you wondering what some of the sentences in English mean). When you send your query via email for the baptism of your ancestor and the marriage of his parents, do so in English and ask if it is possible to receive a reply in English in return. If you need help translating any document sent to you, I will be glad to translate it for you. Good luck! Cary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You are indeed very fortunate that the records for the church at Gross Sabow, Kreis Naugard, have survived. Please note the hours and days the archives is open, if you plan to visit. GroƟ Sabow records are on microfilm and they have the following records available: 1708-1766 Baptisms, marriages & deaths 1766-1772 Baptisms 1767-1772 Marriages 1766-1772 Deaths 1773-1829 Baptisms, marriages & deaths 1773-1829 Confirmations 1830-1835 Baptisms, marriages & deaths 1830-1856 Confirmations 1836-1847 Baptisms, marriages & deaths 1848-1885 Baptisms, marriages & deaths 1886-1942 Baptisms 1886-01/1945 Marriages 1886-1944 Deaths 1901-1930 Confirmations 1931-1944 Confirmations 1942-01/1945 Baptisms Congratulations on being one of the very few fortunate people who may find your Hinterpommern ancestors.
