Mrs. Cora Lou Vinson was serving a life sentence for shooting and killing her husband, Dr. W.D. Vinson around 1920. I found one article about this in "The Constitution" Atlanta, Georgia on Novemeber 4, 1924 that was titled "Woman Lifer Here for Trial" where a photo of her with her daughter, Mrs. Ethelyn Robertson is with her in the photo. She was in Atlanta that day to bring suit against another daughter, Mrs. Pauline Brown, who was accused of mismanaging Cora's property she inheirited from her murdered husband. It appears that Cora had served two years of her sentence at this time in 1924. Another article, same newspaper, dated Nov. 3, 1924 states that she was first sentenced to hanging but in Oct. 1922 she was granted a second trail and was given a life sentence. I found her in the 1930 U.S. Census for Baldwin Co., GA as a 52 year old prisoner at the Georgia State Penitentiary at Brown's Crossing in the 319th Militia! District of Baldwin Co. I have searched the 1920 and 1910 census for both Cora and W.D. and so far nothing. If anyone has any information or suggestions on where I might look, feel free to contact me on this list. I am trying to connect her to who I believe is her sister, Virginia (Jackson) O'Shields deceased, of Atlanta, GA. Thanks in advance.
