I think I was told about it was by someone in my Slape line--the Slapes lived in northern Ark. My Young/Slape lines both lost information in those fires, particularly my Young line. My maiden name was Young, and my paternal grandfather Young married my grandmother, who was a Jackson. I don't know if you could contact someone at the Fed. Census office to see if the records for your county of interest were destroyed. It is the height of irony, for me, that Marion Co. Ar had a fire, burning the same records of my family that were burned in the Federal Census file. In your case, I think your main source could be the county files in Alabama. You may be in luck, though, and find that the federal fire did not burn your family's information. I wish you luck. Lyn Young Sellers
