I've never seen anything previously indicating that any 1880 census records were lost or damaged by fire. I know that the vast majority of the 1890 census was destroyed, and the only surviving records for Alabama are those in all or part of Perry County. Can you point me to more information about destroyed 1880 records? = Steve =
