    3. Ervin Jackson born August 1827 or 1842 in Illinois, father from KY mother TN, and died 19 May 1918 in Florence, Williamson Co TX. He married FRANCIS1 V. JOHNSON Bef. 1871 in Robertson Co., TX, daughter of CALVIN2 JOHNSON and MARTHA1 PEYTON. My ggg-grandfather, Ervin Jackson, b.ca.1830,Ill. first settled in Robertson Co.TX in 1850's. He later lived in Brazos, Callahan, Val Verde, and Sutton Counties. His birthdate may have been 1837. Ervin met Frances Johnson in Robertson Co., TX and by 1871 they were married and had their daughter, Emma. Soon afterwards he moved to Buffalo Gap, just south of Abilene in Taylor County, TX. There he had a general store and raised hogs. This earned him the nickname of "Hog" Jackson. He and Johnnie Johnson worked together and also raised horses. By 1875 a new settlement, Belle Plaine, sprang up in Callahan County, east of Buffalo Gap and 6 miles south of Baird. The railroad appeared destined to go through Belle Plain and the town was booming. "Hog" moved there in 1875 and opened a boarding house and continued to raise hogs. Sometime after their arrival his wife, Frances, died in childbirth. The baby also died. Hog had promised Frances on her death bed that he would always take care of her mother, Martha Peyton Johnson Roberts Jackson, E. Confederate Infantry 12th Regiment, Texas Infantry (Young's) 12th Infantry Regiment [also called 8th Regiment] was organized and mustered in Confederate service at Waco, Texas, during the spring of 1862. Its members were recruited in the towns and cities of Clarksville, Cameron, Hempstead, Nacogdoches, Fairfield, and Waco, and the counties of Comanche, Milam, and Grimes. The regiment was assigned to O. Young's and Waul's Brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department, and saw action in Louisiana and Arkansas. After fighting at Jenkins' Ferry, it moved to Hempstead and disbanded in the spring of 1865. The field officers were Colonel Overton Young; Lieutenant Colonels William Clark, B.A. Philpott, and James W. Raine; and Major Erastus Smith He had a brother who lived in Florence,TX. I have a pension application that says he died in 1918 at the home of his sister-in-law Mrs. Buck Jackson, in Florence, TX. His brother was Andrew "Buck" Jackson m.. Cornelia Gilbert Coleman.
