    1. [JACKSON] DOAK - JACKSON Family photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Hazel DOAK and her brother Edley DOAK. The photograph was taken at the Elite Studio in San Diego, California, likely sometime in the 1880's with the two children appearing to be about 2-4 years old at the time. In addition to their names, someone has written "N. S. DOAK, Lusardi, Cal" on the back of the photograph along with some order information and then penciled in numbers which make it appear to be a child's practice paper. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding the children and their family: Edley C. DOAK was b. 30 Jul 1884 in CA to parents Nathaniel S. DOAK (b. Dec 1846 in Wythe Co. VA) and Sally Elizabeth PRITCHARD (b. 6 Jan 1856 in MO). Edley married Georgia FARMAN (daughter of Floran FARMAN and Dollie THOMPSON) on 15 Oct 1910 in Los Angeles Co. CA and died in Santa Clara Co. CA on 7 Jul 1965. Hazel Olive DOAK was b. 17 Oct 1885 in Lompoc, CA to the same parents noted above. Hazel first married Tom V. VARNEY on 16 Oct 1906 in Los Angeles Co. CA, Tom was 29 years old at the time of their marriage. Hazel later married ? JACKSON and died Dec 1975 in Cleburne, TX. Census records provide the following information: 1900 census of Bernardo Township, CA: Nathaniel S. DOAK, age 53, born Dec 1846, married 17 years, born VA, parents born VA, a Farmer Sallie L. DOAK, wife, age 43, born Jan 1857, married 17 years, 5 children/5 living, born MO, parents born TN Edly C. DOAK, son, age 15, born Jul 1884, born CA, a Farm Laborer Hazel O. Author: Dozenelk6 Surnames: Jackson, Tucker Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jackson/14194.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Replying to Lenda Jackson's post about Lemuel and James Jackson: Thanks so very much for your reply! I have looked at your James Jackson in Coosa AL a lot also. I suspect your James, Lemuel and my Daniel are very possibly related. It is also possible that the family moved through Georgia on the way to AL. This idea was given to me by Gwenmother hen. Check out her postings also. You see, Daniel has been my brick wall for years because he was listed on the 1850 census as born in N. C. and Daniel was gone before the 1860 census. So that one census is all the information I have to work with. As you know, 1840 and prior census all list heads of households only. I have no clue where in N. C. Daniel was born, or what his parents names might have been. It is possible one of his three sons was named after his father or brothers, but a long shot at best. His sons names were: Alexander J, Thomas & William. (no daughters)I have found nobody, at this point, who has him in their line in N! . C. Consequently, I've recently chosen to begin researching the Lemuel in Coosa. There are so many James, Thomas & William Jacksons, that I hope my research on Lemuel will lead me to the relationship of your James Jackson also. (Lemuel is not quite as common a name, although I find several Lemuels in NC in 1810 & 1820 in Pasquotank County and Pasquotank township.) Take a look at the 1810 census there, and you will find 10 "Jacksons" as heads of households on the same page. (Two Williams, Malachi, Mordica, Sally, Thomas, ??Prissy??,{I can't read it}, Lemuel, Abia & Bailey). Please respond and tell me the names of your James' wife and children if you know them. Your James was born cir. 1825 in GA? Right? I welcome your feedback and question on any of my research from Daniel Jackson b. 1810 to now. He was my gg-grandfather. Oh yes! There was a William Jackson I noticed on the 1860 census in Coosa, AL, also Rockford Post Office, who was born in Georgia. He was born cir. 1813. Do you know who he is? Thanks again for responding to my post. I look forward to hearing from you again dozenelk@hotmail.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My great great Grandfather was James Edward Jackson, born 1830 in Edgefield, SC. I believe his family was just passing through on their way to Alabama, as we can't find any proof his family lived there. I don't know who his parents or siblings are though. I got his birth place from the his Civil War Records and a book about Harris County, Georgia history. That is where he had moved to before the war. I have married to a Melinda or Mary Findley, but not positive if that is her maiden name. My great grandpa is John Lazarus Jackson Born in Alabama in 1852. I was wondering if any of these names sound familiar or connect to your tree. Gwen Jackson Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Haven't been able to connect them, but am pretty sure they are related. All seem to be in Coosa, Co between 1840-1860 and all came from the Carolina's. I believe James was born on the way to Alabama, as there is no evidence that he ever lived there. I got the information of his birth from his Civil War records and a book on "Harris County, Georgia". I have had our DNA done and I connect to 2 other Jackson's, exactly, but we can't connect James to the other 2 either. If you find anything in your search, please let me know. I will do the same. Lemuel was likely married previously, if I have him correctly on the 1840 census in Chambers Co. AL. He and Permelia were in Coosa Co. AL for 1850 & 1860 census. Does anyone know who Lemuel's parents were and where in NC the family came from? Lemuel is likely my ggrandfather's (Daniel Jackson)relative, as they lived a few doors apart. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: photo66666 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jackson/14193/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have been doing research on Union General Alexander Hays and his son Gilbert Adams Hays buried at the Allegheny Cemetery in Pittsburgh. One of the people buried real close to General Hays is Captain Robert Hamption of the Hamption's Battery. Captain Hampton was killed at Chancellorsville May 3 and General Jackson was shot in the arm May 2. General Jackson died a week later. The Hampton Battery command by Captain Hamption was directly behind and maybe less then 100 yards from General Jackson when he was shot by his own men less then 100 yards in the front just off Plank Road. So it seems General Jackson was between the Union Hampton's Battery and his own Confederate troops when one of his own men fired on him from about 100 yards away. Some suggest it was more like 30 yards. General Jackson's brother-in-law Major Morrison was with him at the time as well as a Major Adams. They were not assigned to General Jackson but rather showed up at Chancellorsville to attend a baptism of General Jackson's five month old daughter few days before the battle. I believe that Major Adams is CSA Major James Pickett Adams and he might be a cousin of Union Major Gilbert Adams Hays of Pittsburgh. Captain Robert Hamption might also be a cousin since a Samuel Hays appointed Thomas Jackson to West Point. I am trying to sort this out on who is related to whom. I know for sure Major Morrison was General Jacksons brother in law. He came from out of town to attended the baptism of his sister's child. If you read the book titled Andrew Carnegie, it seems General Stonewall Jackson from Clarksburg WV south of Pittsburgh had family ties to Pittsburgh. Allegheny Arsenal is right next door to the Allegheny Cemetery in Pittsburgh. Actually part of I79 40 miles out of Pittsburgh is called Stonewall Jackson Highway.
