Author: tcjack Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jackson/5492.5586.1.2.1.1.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Yes, even though the testing protocols are different they can still each come up with your haplogroup from their information. I have been tested by ancestry and y23 and they both pegged my haplogroup as I1. To correct one point, I don't see any way to participate in FTDNA's Jackson project without buying their test. Yes, there is ysearch.org, but that is a pretty poor excuse for a database and community. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Sandracary2000 Surnames: Jackson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jackson/13840.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This may only be a coincidence, but my grandmother, whose maiden name was Fanny Jackson, had a brother named Leonard b.1882. He would have been 61 in 1943,so may not be a good candidate. My grandmother m.Joseph Longden of Moss Side and came to the States in 1909. She died at age 30 of the flu in 1918. Her parents were Thomas Jackson and Margaret Frost. Brothers were Thomas H., George and Leonard Jackson All were born in Hulme. The family lived at 14 Avenham Street for many years. I know nothing about what became of her brothers. Leonard could have married and had a son named for him. I hope this helps in some way. I would love to find descendants of any of her brothers. Thomas lived in Middleton in 1909. George was listed as a painter/decorator in one census and this was confirmed in a letter to my father from his aunt. Best regards. This can be done by entering the data YDNA in Y search and mtDNA in mitosearch two websites sponsored and run by FTDNA, but any company results can be put into the data base, which gives the larges data base to search from. On the down side of testing by companies other than FTDNA for YDNA and mtDNA is the smaller data base in regards to projects, as they only contain the testing companies data. This is where the FTDNA data base comes to the for and the variety of projects because of the large database bob Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Having the most participants to compare ranks high on my list. Ancestry and FTDNA test different markers and so the results are not comparable. If you test at ancestry, the results cannot be compared to the results at FTDNA. Also if ordering from FTDNA, join the Jackson group to place your order instead of ordering from the Home Page. There's a small price break if you order through the Jackson Group. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: BobMitchell24 Surnames: Jackson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jackson/5492.5586.1.2.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: yDNA testing has been done on descendants of Abel Jackson, son of CPT Stephen Jackson who most researchers agree is a son of Benjamin Jackson. The results matched with documented descendants of COL John Jackson of Hempstead, NY. COL John Jackson had a son named James Jackson who had a son named Benjamin who migrated to North Carolina in the 1740's and settled in the Anson Co./Chesterfield Co. area. Descendants of COL Stephen Jackson 1808-1887 were tested as well, their samples did not match the COL John Jackson line. There were two, possibly three lines of Jacksons in that area prior to 1800. Author: tcjack Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jackson/5492.5586.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Amazon does the testing. Click the DNA tab above and read about it. It will cost about $150 to get the yDNA test here. You just pay for it online and they send you a kit with a Qtip swab to take a sample from the inside of your mouth by rubbing the cheek. Looks like you can choose between a 33 or 47 marker. You pack it up and mail back in the box provided. Once your results are available, they will be posted in the database and you can have them show the closest matches. They have come up with a system to group similar tests into haplogroups. For example mine is a I1, which supposedly originated in Scandinavian (Vikings?). FamilyTreeDNA also does the testing where you can get the 67 or so marker test. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Sharon Oddie Brown
    3. There are now 449 JACKSONs in my rootsweb tree, and in the past month a lot of new information has been added and/or edited. You can find it at rootsweb by seeking the silverbowl database at: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&db=silverbowl&recno=4301 I have not entered all of my JACKSON material into this database (it all takes time), but more of it can be found in my website (link beneath) and also in some of my blog pieces. I am working on some deeds relating to JACKSONs in Ireland in the early 1700s, and hope to post more in the coming weeks. Sharon -- Sharon Oddie Brown, Roberts Creek, BC, Canada.
