    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: imjaniejac Surnames: Jackson, Hughes, Fletcher, Flesher Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jackson/14278.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I've studied on this conflicting information for some time. At one time, I had Sarah, Edward Jackson's daughter married twice; once to Jonathan Hughes and once to John Flesher. But later I saw from the dates that these two marriages were not possible for one woman, so I began to dig a little deeper. I read that Edward Jackson's Will named his daughter, Sarah Fletcher as an heir in 1807. So she couldn't have been married to Hughes at this time! Those comments are the introduction to my study on this which is posted on my Jackson website here: http://www.jacksonfamilygenealogy.com/pages/conflictingSarahandAbigailJackson.htm This was written some time ago and could use some updating, but the basic examination of the facts remain the same. This study is 3 pages and the 3rd page addresses the moving of the gravestone to it's present location. 'The best laid plans' . . . often just cause confusion! 1. [JACKSON] Joseph Pickens
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: atb123 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jackson/14279/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have this newspaper obituary as follows. Watseka Illinois Friday, June ? Watseka Mourns The Passing Of Worthy Citizen The death of Joseph Pickens, well known and respected Watseka plumber after a plucky struggle for life following two operations, despite the handicap of age, caused a general expression of sorrow from the people of the vicinity. Death occurred at the Iroquois Hospital, Wednesday evening, June 22, at about 4:40 o'clock. Mr. Pickens, in his younger days, was a picture of stalwart manhood, proof against ill health. In later years, however, he began to fail until his condition became so serious that he was taken to the hospital where two operations were preformed for obstruction of the bowels. Joseph Lee Pickens was born on a farm near Crescent City, January 1, 1858. Since his father and mother both died when he was but a child, their names have been lost from record. He spent his youth with relatives in that vicinity and about 1883 he was united in marriage with Emma Mae Flesher. Four children were born to this union: Earl, who passed away about six years ago, Fay of Watseka, Birdella of LaFayette, Ind., and Verner, who died in infancy. Mrs.Pickens was called by death July 4, 1890, and in 1907 Mr. Pickens remarried to Mrs. Lena Martin who survives. Three children were born to this marriage, Joseph Jr., and twin daughters, Norma and Naomi, all of whom reside at home. Mr. Pickens is also survived by one half-brother, Charles A. Fletcher of Pearshall, Colorado, and by two step children, William M. Martin of Watseka and Mrs. Stella Martin Reeder of Chicago. Mr. Pickens, after his first marriage, was engaged in farming near Crescent City for a number of years. About 1897, he moved to Watseka where he found occupation as a plumber, and served capably as city plumber for a number of years. Funeral services will be held this (Friday) afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Watseka Christian Church, conducted by Rev. R. N. Cloyd. Interment will be made in the Flesher cemetery near Crescent City. Does anyone know what year Joseph Pickens died? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: atb123 Surnames: Jackson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jackson/14278/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There is much confusion about Sarah Abigail Jackson. Sarah Abigail Jackson b. 3 Jan 1786 New Jersey or Virginia d. 1 July 1855 Iroquois, Illinois Married 4 Jun 1804 to; John Flesher b. 22 Aug 1782 Harrison, Lewis, West Virginia d. 23 Mar 1866 Spring Creek, Iroquois, Illinois Children; Phoebe Flesher b. 1804 d. 1860 Margaret Flesher b. 1805 d. 1881 Stephen Flesher b. 1814 - John Flesher b. 1817 d. 1880 Jacob Flesher b. 1819 - Henry Flesher b. 1823 d. 1847 Jefferson Flesher b. 1824 - William Flesher b. 1829 For reference see; 1840 Federal Census Iroquois, Illinois pg. 13 1850 Federal Census District 21, Iroquois, Illinois pg.73-74 This Sarah Abigail Jackson is not to be confused with the Sarah Jackson that married Jonathan Hughes. The big problem is that both Sarah Abigail Jackson families claim Edward Jackson and Martha Miller as parents. ((Will the real parents of Sarah Abigail Jackson please stand)) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: tucgig Surnames: Jackson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jackson/5638.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi! As near as I can tell, Cecil Paul Jackson was my great-grandfather. His son, Robert Ellsworth Jackson, was my grandfather. He met my grandmother at the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Childrens Home; they were both orphans. From the records I found online, Robert Ellsworth, Lois Helen, Johnnie Louise, and Evelyn Paul Jackson all entered the Soldiers & Sailors Home in 1930. He met my grandmother the following year; apparently, they married after they came of age and had 3 sons. Robert Ellsworth and Suzanne's son, William Everett Jackson, was my father. Unfortunately, I don't know much about my father's genealogy, although I've been searching the web and working on it as much as I can. I do believe that Eupha's maiden name was Warren and she married someone named Chewning after Robert Andrew. I'm also working to put what I can on Geni. Anyway, it's nice to meet you, cousin :D Chelle Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He was married first time probably in N.C., had 2 daughters, then evidently first wife died and he married Helena Simmons and they went to Paris, Henry County, Tennessee. They had 5 children; one of them being Lemuel Deberry Jackson who was my Gr-gr-grandfather. They left Paris, Henry Co., Tn. and show up on the 1850 census in Fulton County, Ar. which is now in Izard Co., Ar. Thanks.
