    1. [JACKSON] John Calhoun Jackson & Sarah - SC-GA-AL
    2. Mark
    3. Looking for information/leads/relatives of my great, great grandfather, John Calhoun Jackson. Not an easy line to trace! I've posted before, but was hoping since then someone who knows this line may have joined the group. Have found in 1880, 1870, and 1860 census in Pike and Coffee County, AL (earlier Pike, later Coffee). I only knew of two children aside from my great grandmother, Pauline Jackson who married Joseph Madison Wilson. I know from my Grandfather's notes that one daughter, Mary Jackson married a John Brunson. And I know that there was a son, William Tommy Jackson, who is buried in the same cemetery with his mother, Sarah A. Jackson. (maiden name unknown). Family appears to have lived in Georgia at least as early as the 1850 census, as I have found them there in Troup County. Two children and the mother are both listed as having been born in Georgia. John C. died before the 1900 census, but I've found Sarah living with one of her sons in Coffee county in that year. Based on the number of births, with census data, I appear to have found all of their children. But I've had no luck going back further on the Jackson line. Census' which list place of birth bear out family tradition that John Calhoun was from South Carolina. This is what I have based on family tradition, census, and cemetery information: 1. John Calhoun Jackson (b.12 Aug 1823-Sc;d.19 Aug 1899-Enterprise,AL) sp: Sarah (b.2 Nov 1831;d.22 Jan 1902) 2. Mary A Jackson (b.Abt 1848-Georgia) 2. Martha Addie Jackson (b.15 Nov 1850-Georgia;d.6 Nov 1931) sp: John Brunson (b.14 Oct 1851;d.5 Nov 1933) 2. Evander B Jackson (b.Abt 1853-Alabama) 2. John A Jackson (b.1854-Alabama;d.1929) sp: Sallie (b.1851;d.1929) 2. Amelia L Jackson (b.Abt 1858-Alabama) 2. Pauline M. Jackson (b.17 Jan 1860-Ariton,Dale County,al;d.10 May 1917) sp: Joseph Madison Wilson (b.10 Aug 1868-Pike County,al;m.Abt 1894(Div);d.16 Jan 1949-Andalusia,al) 2. George W Jackson (b.May 1864-Alabama) sp: Rivier(?) (b.Mar 1867-Alabama;m.Abt 1888) 2. Joseph W Jackson (b.Abt 1867-Alabama) 2. William Tommy Jackson (b.18 Jan 1870;d.10 Mar 1892)

    1. Re: [JACKSON] Re: [HILL-L] DNA question.
    2. Mary Harkey Russell
    3. Jay, The genealogy DNA tests are only testing for one Chromosome and that is the Y The Y chromosome is carried from father to son down through the ages. So if the first father was named Jackson this test would only be for that line of Jackson Now it looks like your name may be Hill and If you test it would be for Hill only. Like from you to your father to his father to his father back in time. So the test for a Jackson would not match a test for a White or Speaks. ------------------------------------------------- Maybe this has made it as clear as mud to you but I hope it helped some.
