The 1880 census for Marion County, Arkansas, is online at Ancestry.com. The 1880 census for the entire state of Alabama also is online at Ancestry.com. I believe you're thinking of the 1890 census, nearly completely lost in a 1921 fire. Only a portion of Perry County, Alabama, remains, along with a few other bits from other states and the District of Columbia. Sadly, none of Arkansas is included in the surviving fragments, and none of my ancestors were in Perry County, Alabama. Information on what census data Ancestry.com has online is available at http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/news/articles/6116.asp if you're interested. And so far, I haven't seen any indication of any other losses except 1890. = Steve =

Jane I THINK I have information on the siblings & parents of your David Jackson b. 1758 - - Have a proven David to be sibling of Andrew, William, John, Samuel and Joseph - all sons of William and Margaret Wilson Jackson of Guilford. Co., NC. Have recently found land records going back to Rowan County, NC (Guilford Co., carved from Rowan - as was Anson County. First know child of Wm. & Margaret proven to be married in Guilford co., in 1774 b. in Bucks or Chester Co., PA. Grandually, we're (a group of us) adding documentation as found - will send complete data to you via attachment to your persnal email addy. To date, all known siblings migrated to Tennessee settling basically in Middle TN with some eventually going into the "Western Dist" by 1840's with others later migrating into Missouri, Indiana, Arkansas, KY, and Texas. Study the info and let me know - - some of your family names show up and with others of your surname show up in 1820-1840 Jackson County, TN, but cannot prove relationship to date. Is anybody on the list familiar with Tyra Jackson of Sumter County, South Carolina. He appears there on the 1790 census and later in Hall County, Georgia. I believe him to be the father of my 4th greatgrandmother Jemima Jackson Wallis born 1810 in South Carolina. Billie Molder Millsap bemillsap@sbcglobal.net

I think I was told about it was by someone in my Slape line--the Slapes lived in northern Ark. My Young/Slape lines both lost information in those fires, particularly my Young line. My maiden name was Young, and my paternal grandfather Young married my grandmother, who was a Jackson. I don't know if you could contact someone at the Fed. Census office to see if the records for your county of interest were destroyed. It is the height of irony, for me, that Marion Co. Ar had a fire, burning the same records of my family that were burned in the Federal Census file. In your case, I think your main source could be the county files in Alabama. You may be in luck, though, and find that the federal fire did not burn your family's information. I wish you luck. Lyn Young Sellers

I've never seen anything previously indicating that any 1880 census records were lost or damaged by fire. I know that the vast majority of the 1890 census was destroyed, and the only surviving records for Alabama are those in all or part of Perry County. Can you point me to more information about destroyed 1880 records? = Steve =
