Those of you who have a Jacksons from NC, I have the following children of William & Margaret Jackson - some proven, some highly probable, that I have no information on, other than some census records, some marriages, etc. that I do not have much on. William Jackson died in Guilford Co., NC in 1792 - Guilford County formed from Orange & Rowan [two of Wm.'s deeds were recorded in Rowan with land located in what became Guilford. Randolph & Rockingham formed from Guilford co., in 1779 & 1785 respectively - Some of his older sons could well be in Surry, Chatham, Burke, Caswell, Iredell or Stokes as well as Anson. At this time, the earliest I can place William & Margaret within the current Guilford Co., NC area in 1772 - oldest known child is dau Mary b. abt 1755 supposedly in Bucks Co., PA and married Jospeh Summers 2 Aug 1774 in Guilford Co., NC If you would like a copy of our Family Group WORKSHEET on William & Margaret Wilson Jackson, please send me your email address and I'll send you the attachment. Here are the following names I lack family information (1) George Jackson b. abt 1755 married 8 April 1772 Sarah Barker in Rockingham Co., NC (2) Joseph Jackson b. abt 1756 d. 1844 Sumner Co., TN - probable children George, Mary, William Joseph and James ++ (3) Samuel - b. 1775 - have him, know he had more children, but can't account for them - one dau probably married a male with surname of "Dean" - - Samuel m. Sarah Barker Rockingham Co., NC (4) Francis Jackson b. 1770-1780 Guilford Co., NC m. #2 Susanna Alley 14 Nov 1815 in Rockingham found in Williamson Co., TN 1820 (5) John Jacksonb. 1775-1777 prob. Guilford Co., NC in White co., TN by 1820 (6) David Jackson also in White Co., TN by 1820 (recently sent query to Jackson-L on him) Then............ I have one son of Andrew, son of William and Margaret Jackson of Guilford Co., NC that I can not account for - re his birth: you have three choices - Two of his sons Andrew who married Carline moved to Ark (can't find) and George W. "went to Miss. R." (can't find) so I don't know which date fits which one...dates: about 1804; btwn.1806-1820; and between 1811-1820. Let me know, and I'll be happy to share - the information is too massive for a post (abt 16 pgs. The attachment will be MSWord document abt 16 pgs. Most of these families settled in TN prior to going West - it seems they had kin in Ala for some grandchildren of Wm, Jr. moved that way. Suspect these boys could also have had siblings named; Benjamin, Thomas, Henry, James and Jonathan [these names show up quite a few times in Wm's children, as well as grandchildren, but have not found them. This entire family was good about naming their children about the same - it's great to spot such, but hard to put 'em together in the right place! Many, after migrating into TN some descendants went westward from Middle TN, some to the Western Dist, some to ARK, some to MO, some into Indian Territory, and some into Texas. Would be interesting to know, but I guess I will still go by the "proven" genealogy of Andrew and "Stonewall." The following came from the website that I referred to in my previous post. "While the names of Jackson’s forbearers are unclear, information about his descendents is well documented. Andrew and Rachel Jackson had no children of their own. Their adopted son and heir, Andrew Jackson Junior had four sons and one daughter." If their son (Rachel's nephew,) was adopted, then Andrew has no "direct" descendants. http://www.thehermitage.com/jackson/quick_facts/faq/content.htm >>> Andrew Jackson <<< (click on genealogy) http://www.vmi.edu/archives/jackson/tjgenea.html >>>Stonewall ancestors and descendants<<< My g-grandfather, George Washington Jackson b: 1839, MO.(who's mother, grandmother, older sister and 2 brothers,) have been tracked to Nashville, TN., in late 1700's, was nick-named "Stonewall," in later years, but that sure didn't make him "Stonewall." When I was growing up, my mother used to tell me we were descendants of William White of the Mayflower. Well after many years of research, (that is well documented,) I found we are descended from William White, but not the one on the Mayflower. Verify, Verify, Verify and then Verify again! Still searching for info on Benjamin Jackson, b: 1790-1800, NC. Father of: Martha Jane b: 1828, William Andrew b: 1830, James Monroe b: c 1832, all born in TN., Melvina b: 1834, Emily D. b: 1837, George Washington b: 1839 and Lucinda E. b: c 1841. It's well documented that Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson" was the son of Jonathan and Judith "Julia" Beckwith Neal Jackson. Of this union there were four children - Elizabeth b. 1819 d. 1826; Warren J. b. 1821 d. at age of 19 in 1841; Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall b 1824 m. #1 Eleanor J. "Elinor" Junkin & #2 Mary Anna Morrison d. 1863 and Laura Ann b. 1826 m. Jonathan Arnold and d. 1911. At this point, I'm mainly interested in find the ancestors of my William Jackson - IF Andrew Jackson,Sr. comes about - so be it - IF not, I thrilled to have proven another generation when I find that "Unknown father" of Wm. If what you've found proves the connection - you've found a gold mine! Stonewall had three children - #1 Stillborn son by Elinor Junkin who d. 1854. The other two children were by Mary Anna Morrison: Mary Graham b. 1858 d. 1858 and Julia Laura b. 1862 d. 1889 and married William Edmund Christian. Col. Edward Jackson was the grandfather of Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson. Edward had two marriages #1 to Mary Haddan and #2 to Elizabeth Weatherholt Brake - of these two marriages he had 15 children: George Edward, David Edward, Jonathan (Stonewall's father) Rachel, Mary Hadden "Polly", Rebecca; Catherine "Katy", Cummins Edward, James Madison, Elizabeth "Eliza" John E., Margaret "Peggy" Return Meigs, Edward J. and Andrew M. Could the above mentioned "Andrew M.", 1/2 brother to Stonewall's father, Jonathan, be the Andrew you have found? Col Edward Jackson was the son of John and Elizabeth Cummins Jackson. The only tie to "Stonewall" Jackson and Andrew Jackson (Gen/Pres) would be if a brother to the above mentioned John Jackson be found, having son/grandson that included Andrew Jackson, Sr. - still that would not make a "direct" relationship. John & Elizabeth Cummins Jackson had eight children, none of which fathered Andrew Jackson, Sr. Their children: George, Col Edward, John, Jr., Elizabeth, Sophia, Mary Sarah, Samuel, and Henry. The VMI website previously given is an excellent regarding Stonewall Jackson's ancestry - The book "Colonel Edward Jackson 1759-1828 Revolutionary Soldier.....compiled by Nancy Ann Jackson, PHD and Linda Brake Meyers and Published by the authors by Genealogy Publishing Service of Franklin, NC is well documented on Col. Edward's family + info on John's family. It is known that Andrew Jackson, Sr. had three sons - Andrew being the youngest - Andrew, Sr. died shortly after the birth of Andrew - the two older boys died during the Amer. Revolution, taken prisoners by the British and died after their release from disease incurred during their captivity. Andrew's mother died shortly thereafter, from disease contact while taking care of prisoners of war at Charleston. As for proven descendants of Andrew Jackson being allowed to spend the night at The Hermitage - it could well be proven descendants of Rachel Donelson Jackson, Andrew's wife. To my knowledge, the grandfather of Andrew Jackson (Gen/Pres) has not been documented to date by The Hermitage researchers nor the White House researchers. If so, it'll sure be the best kept secret in genealogy. There are many theories, and my line is included within one of those theories. to wit: "William Jackson, brother of Andrew Jacskon, Sr. married Margaret Wilson, the daughter of Andrew Wilson. They had a son Andrew Jackson, cousin of Gen. A. Jackson" - pg. 678 Tennessee Cousins, A History of Tennessee People. + Old family "tales told" the grandfather of Thomas Jefferson Jackson was a cousin to Andrew Jackson (Gen/Pres) - Thomas Jefferson was the son of Andrew Jackson of Jackson Co., TN. This is my direct line which goes through Andrew Jackson being the proven son of William and Margaret Wils! on Jackson. Wm. d. 1792 in Guilford Co.,NC - Andrew, his son migrated to Jackson Co., TN after 1810, the same area (Middle TN) where Andrew Jackson (Gen/Pres) was buying speculative land. Who was William's father? - The BIG question: Did this "unknown father" of William have another son named Andrew, and then IF the above published statement is proven to be factual? - then next, did this "unknown father of Wm. & Andrew have a brother named John proven to be the same John Jackson who married Elizabeth Commins who were the grandparents of Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson?
