I have Mary Steel with her family in 1881 but her mother is a widow so will need to hunt for where her father was born, possibly on the 1871 Census. I will look for it on my next visit to the local record office. Whereabouts are you in the world? I live in Cumbria, England so can get easy access to the Cumbrian records at the local office. I really enjoy this so am happy to try to find anything you need as regards Cumbria, or Cumberland as it was then. I notice you said to e-mail you. I assume you mean by replying on the message board link as I have no other way of knowing how to contact you direct. I have never used the message boards before and my attention was drawn by the mention of Twentyman as I have people in my family tree with the surname Twentyman. I'm not sure when I'll be at the record office next owing to the Easter holidays, but I will look up some info when next I go.

I have more info going back on the Brown side of the family, but I don't go back any further on the Jackson side. Feel free to email me and we can exchange information

Searching for anyone who may have or know who may have the book: The Beckoning Hand by Joe C. Jackson. It is my understanding the book is out of print with all copies sold I'm trying to find a copy and have a used/out of print book dealer doing a search for me (they're located in Oklahoma) - they have requested the publisher's name as well as the approx date of print i.e. (during the 30s or 40s) or within the last 10 years. If it was privately published, they also need that information. Mr. Jackson, an elderly gentleman, was from Oklahoma, and from what I understand was a retired college professor. He wrote about 5 different books on his family, with The Beckoning Hand about his James Jackson lineage. Any help sincerely appreciated. Evyonne
