Over the last four years I have been stating emphatically that the first 12 markers or panel 1 of the Y-DNA test results for anyone that matches the ancestral haplotype of Col. John Jackson s/o Robert Jackson would therefore be a direct descendant of this Hempstead lineage. Just last week I was proven completely wrong. An individual with the surname of Barber matched 12/12 to Col. John Jackson but astoundingly was a genetic distance greater than 20 at 37 markers. My original conjecture might be more accurate if the surname of the person being considered is Jackson but even that is now in doubt. It is still valid that we do have a unique 12 marker signature but we must use that fact more cautiously than in the past and we must have anyone that has assumed they are related to Robert Jackson based solely on my statement to further upgrade to 37 markers to be sure of their relatedness.
