Author: roncomptr Surnames: Jackson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jackson/13033.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This is NOT my Jackson family. So I went and looked to see what you are looking at. And this is what I found. The 1900 census shows that Eva is the niece of David and Mary Shaw. The 2nd family listed on the first page of Gilliam, Mayville County is an Ollie Jackson b. 1891 in Oregon. Eva was born in 1889 Oregon. This is my thoughts on the subject and I have seen this before. Eva was probably visiting the her sister who married a Shaw. 2nd family listed living in Gilliam, Mayville County has a daughter named Ollie Jackson. Ollie is the daughter of Nancy (can't read the last name). Nancy could have remarried. There are no other Jacksons living in Gilliam, Mayville Co, Oregon Back then the census taker counted who was in the house on that day and the time the census taker came. So she may belong to the Jackson family who lived a few farms up. Good Luck. Joy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [JACKSON] Free Y-DNA test for a direct descendant of Wm Jackson d.1795 Woodford Co., KY
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: JMcAnally5258 Surnames: Jackson McAnally Poe Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jackson/13035/mb.ashx Message Board Post: At the time of this photo, my second great-grandfather, John A. McAnally, veteran of the Civil War, was on a near total disability pension due to his wartime injuries. He died in 1890. The child on his lap is unidentified. His civil war record indicates he was born in Franklin County, Kentucky in 1819 before the 1823 marriage of his assumed parents William and Nancy Poe McAnally in that same county. Through Y-DNA testing my second cousin once removed and I have proved that he is actually a descendant of Robert Jackson b.abt 1615 England d. 1683 Hempstead Long Island, New York, but we still have not determined who his father was or identified any other link to this Robert Jackson, nor do we know how and when the McAnally surname was acquired. As an adult at age 45 John McAnally (Jackson) and his two oldest sons joined the Indiana Volunteers at the same time in January 1864 leaving his pregnant wife Mary Herndon McAnally at home with three children less than eleven years old. One wonders if this was done because of the lure of the signing bonus or because of Mary Herndon's connection to her cousin William (Billy) Herndon, former law partner of President Abraham Lincoln. In our search for John's ancestors the most probable scenario seems to be that Nancy Poe had a child by a Jackson prior to her marriage to William McAnally and that this Jackson lived in the vicinity of her family's residence in Franklin County, Kentucky in the local area noted as the Forks of the Elkhorn River. Tax rolls of that period have shown that the closest Jackson family was that of John Chandler Jackson who was a son of William Jackson of Woodford County, Kentucky. This Wm Jackson's will was probated in 1795 and lists all of his living sons and daughters, this information has been abstracted and is probably the basis of the many files you see posted on Roots Web. All of these files imply that this Wm Jackson of Woodford County was a direct descendant of the Robert Jackson lineage and that he was born in 1707 in New Jersey, but none have any source material to prove such. What has been sourced and proven is that prior to migrating to Kentucky, Wm lived in Amelia County, Virginia and appeared on tithables listings, order books and local tax censuses of the period. We are still in the process of finding out how long he lived in Amelia County but we do know that he had to be there as early as 1761. Here is a listing of the male descendants that were identified in the will of 1795: sons; Matthew b.1741, William Sr. b. 1743, Samuel b. 1744, John Chandler b.1757, and William Jr. b. 1767 : grandson; Jesse Montgomery Jackson. All dates of birth except for John Chandler Jackson are unproven. We need to prove or disprove that this Wm Jackson is a direct descendant of Robert Jackson and I will pay for a 12 marker test at FTDNA for anyone that can prove their relationship to this Jackson lineage. The existence of two William brothers is subject to interpretation of the will and it is highly probable that there is only one son named William.
