My great great grandfather was named Andrew W Jackson. He showed being born in York county, SC abt 1810. I know nothing of his family, parents or siblings except that on the census he says his father was born in NC and his mother in VA. His family wife Messina Adaline Cowan Jackson left SC and went to Ill between 1860 and 1870 and had one child there, they then left with family floated down the ms in a covered wagon and ended up in Ms. I was told through my mother still living that he was a cousin of President Andrew Jackson. Maybe this could be through his mother since she was born in VA. Any inf on any jackson's would be greatly appreciated Jackie Lucas Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am searching, unsuccessfully, for a James Edward(Georgia history book has this as his name) or John (as 1850 and 1860 census's has it listed). He was born about 1830, in Edgefield area I believe. Married a Mary or Melinda, think her last name is Finlay. Her mother Ann lived with them in Alabama in 1850 and 1860. They later moved to Georgia. I have no record of them other than the 2 census and the information from the Georgia's, "Harris County History"Book . Any tidbit would help. Author: noelpparrish Surnames: Jackson, Hughes Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jackson/4268.1.2.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have GREAT news! I have recently found some records that connect our Littleberry Applewhite Jackson with the Jackson family in Butler Co, AL, I think, without a doubt. There are two land records, 1858 and 1860, where land was auctioned in Butler and Crenshaw counties in Alabama to LITTLEBERRY JACKSON. (See my tree for the copies.) The 1860 land record states: Littleberry Jackson of Butler Co, AL. I combed the 1850 and 1860 census for anyone else this would fit, and other than L.B. Jackson in 1860, there are no other matches that would fit. I think this is proof positive that the L.B. Jackson in that census must be Littleberry. I further think that T.B. Jackson in the 1850 census could very well be either a mistake in transcription (it looks like it could be either L or T) or a mistake on the census taker's part (and we all know that we've seen those before!). I also believe that this is the same D.B. Jackson in the 1870 Census of Carroll Co, MS. Perhaps Denis was a nickname, but I beli! eve that Littleberry would have been his given name since his business transactions (land records) were conducted with the name Littleberry. I also think this pretty much squashes the Little Bear/Morningstar story that many of us have heard before. I have no doubt that this Littleberry Jackson of Butler Co is the same as D.B. Jackson of Carroll Co. MS, the father of Littleberry Applewhite Jackson! As to Littleberry wife... I spoke with Mariann Worthington, whose husband is a descendent of Kittie L. Hughes, daughter of B.H. Hughes of Carroll Co. She has in her possession two Bibles, one belonging to Kittie and the other belonging to B.H. Hughes. She conveyed to me that the B.H. Hughes Bible states that his daughter, Louisa Mary Harbin Hughes married App Jackson. (I did a dance of joy for all of us who have been searching for her!) Mrs. Worthington is sending me copies of the Bible and other goodies she has on the Hughes line. I will scan everything she sends me and forward on to anyone who wants it. Now on to the quest for Amanda Caroline... PS I am happy to share anything I find with anyone who wants it. PLEASE if you find something yourself, share with me, too!
