There are several labs that do this but FTDNA has the most Jackson participants and therefore, more chances for a match. And yes, the participants should be a direct male to male descendant. DNA tests can provide absolute evidence of non-relatedness and save years of futile inquiry. This also gives you an opportunity to find others related to your line. Please check out my page where I try to make so much of this information available. My line as had so much success with this that I readily recommend it for brick walls! http://www.jacksonfamilygenealogy.com/pages/dnaindex.htm Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am not sure how this works. Does he have to be a direct male descendant through all males? In other words, he is connected through Littleberry's daughter, Rosa Lee Jackson Ray, and her daughter, Willie Audrea Ray Bolding, and my mother. So, it goes from male to female to female to female to male. Hope Martin, who is also a descendant of Littleberry, has been doing research as well. Her father may be willing. Jackson (b:1849) is my great-grandfather. It does appear that we are related, but it has sure been a journey. Would make things much easier if they would use their given names!!!! Anyhow, I was wondering if you know of any Jackson male descendents that have participated in the DNA Genealogy. My brother gave me his DNA about two years ago, and it has helped somewhat. But it would sure be great if someone from Littleberry's line would also participate. Know of anyone that might be willing? If so, I can tell you about a free DNA project or others that charge a fee. The following two paragraphs were found on a msg board but they are so old the address of the author is no longer good and email to him has bounced. I posted an answer recently to the msg board but they told me it would not be on top where it could be easily seen. They were right, I can't find it again; so I am copying to this list his two paragraphs with my response in hopes of reaching someone who knows about a William Jackson's marriage to Honor MacDonald and their son, Martin. The original post was: The William Jackson of Rockaway, NJ, son of Joseph Jackson, General in the French and Indian War, was born in 1736, married to Honor MacDonald, had a son named Martin in 1759, christened in N.Y. He was known to have been in Tennessee by 1776. It is not known for sure if he was the Capt. William Jackson at King's Mtn, or if he was the signer for the State of Franklin in east TN later. My ancestor was Martin Jackson, who married Nancy Morris in Greene Co., TN, in 1802, who I believe to be the son of the Rockaway William Jackson. and I, too, have been looking for a William Jackson, who was born in 1736 in Rockaway, N.J., who is said to have been in Tennessee by 1776. This particular William may be the same as your William. My William was the father of a Martin Jackson, who may be the same as my ancestor, a Martin Jackson who married Nancy Morris in Greene Co. TN on Aug 4, 1802. William, the father of Martin, was married twice and had 26 children. Let me know if you think we are in the same ball park. Tom My response to the above: Small headway is being made and I thought we might benefit from sharing what we know. There were two William Jacksons on the 1790 Wilkes Co census. Descendants of both Williams have now participated in the Jackson DNA Project. One William (#1), the one who signed Abigail Jacksons marriage bond to Jonathan Hughes, has proved to be 'related' to the Robert Jackson of Hempstead line. So by process of elimination, the researchers working on this have decided he must be Gen. Joseph's son. I would love to know about his marriage to Honor MacDonald - I have not found records of either of his marriages. I do have some descendants, but don't know about Martin. The other William (#2) Jackson on the 1790 census for Wilkes Co is the William who married Abigail Gillum. Two different descendants of this line have participated in the Jackson DNA Project and both have proved 'not related' to the Hempstead Jackson line. Another descendant of JAMES Jackson, neighbor to William (#1) has participated and is found to be related to the Hempstead line! But if James' estimated age is correct, he was born when William was abt 14 years old. So James is probably a cousin or nephew - we do not know yet, but are in the process of learning more about the area and history, hoping to discover James' parents. William #1 rec'd land grant in Washington District (not county) in 1794 from the state of NC. That area later became Carter County, TN. William wrote his will there in 1806 and added a codicil in June 1810 and we assume died shortly thereafter. His will and land deed are on my Jackson web site. James (who married Abigail Fairchild) lived in 1790 in the area of Wilkes that was later set off to be Ashe Co, NC and he died there in 1823. That area later became Watauga County. We've learned a lot of his history and descendants, but have not proved his parents yet. Good suspicions but can't say for sure at all. If you can add your info about Honor MacDonald and her son that would increase our knowledge of William. That Jackson Ledger said he was married twice and 19 of his 26 children were still living at the time of his death - but didn't name his children. His will named 4 sons and 'all my other children'. So that's not much help. Several Jackson researchers are working on this and we'd be more than glad to have your input! Janie Jackson Kimble _http://jacksonfamilygenealogy.com_ (http://jacksonfamilygenealogy.com) _http://www.jacksonfamilygenealogy.com/pages/DarrellJacksonlink.htm_ (http://www.jacksonfamilygenealogy.com/pages/DarrellJacksonlink.htm) From this page you can link to William's will and to the two land deeds that convinced me that this William is the son of General Joseph of NJ. **************Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget?
