Good Evening Everyone, I thought this might be a good weekend to send the lists an update. First of all - there are now 38 regular subscribers to the list and 4 subscribers to the digest version. Then... Elizabeth's christmas idea started me thinking - a dangerous occupation for me... <g>. But....... Christmas is approaching. I am wondering if any of you have used Christmas or another family gathering as a chance to share some family history and if so what did you do? One year I printed on linen looking paper a 5-generation pedigree chart and wrapped it like a scroll for everyone at our family Christmas Party. That was a very long time ago - probably 12 to 15 years and I could probably do that again but am wondering if any of you have some other ideas. Thanks and take care - Emma

What I did for my own kids several years ago, and am doing this year for the two in-laws, is to write up a narrative summary by generations, similar to what I've done on my own web pages. For instance, see http://www.duke.edu/web/chlamy/ballentine.html for a typical one. For circulation within the family, I restrict the narrative to the direct-line generations (since I find that non-genealogists often get confused by the descendant branches), and I try to add at least one paragraph per generation with details on where the family lived, any major moves, other history. I also comment on weak evidence, unanswered questions, etc. so if somebody in the future wants to continue the research, they'll know where I left off. -- Elizabeth Harris ncgen@mindspring.com NCGenWeb project: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/ Winston-Salem NC area genealogy: http://www.fmoran.com/
