Who is this This is person is buried in the South Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Oconee Co., SC. They are buried next to William D. Ivester and Emma Ansley. STANCIL, Verno, b.22-mar-1905, d.15-july-1934, next to william d & emme e ivestor We have a Verna as a child for them (based on name in census records as best we could read it) and it would appear this would be her. However, I had a possible name for her husband as Burdette. Is Burdette wrong? Is Stancil correct? Was she married twice? And I guess the other question should be is this a daughter of William and Emma as it might appear? Thanks all - Emma
Hi Emma, Well here's the scoop. William D. Ivester and Emma Ansley Ivester had twins, Verna and Verno.. They are listed on the 1910 Stephens County Census, as sons, Verne and Verno, ages 4 (E.D.144 Image 20). Then on the 1920 Census in Oconee County, SC only Verna, daughter, age 15 appeared with the family(E.D.133 Image 14). Since they were so young, I assumed that the other twin had died. Well guess what? Verno also a female does appear on the 1920 Census Oconee County, SC (E.D.133 Image 10) married to a Bob Stancil, age 19, She is listed as Vino, age 15. She and her husband are listed again on the 1930 Oconee County, SC Census (E.D. 2 Image 37) this time her name is spelled Vano. So she is the Verno Stancil that is buried next to William and Emma. Verna, the other twin, is listed on the Florida Deaths Index D/C# 49893 as Viola Verna Burdette; she died 26 Jun 1978 in Pasco County, FL. Both twins were born 22 Mar 1905 in Georgia. This should teach me not to assume. Edna ENC6@aol.com wrote:Who is this This is person is buried in the South Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Oconee Co., SC. They are buried next to William D. Hi Dave and Emma, Regarding the discussion of Jennie and Henning Leander Ivester, thanks for the updates. I do have a little more info from an obit for Jennie which appeared in the Greenville (SC) News 2 Jul 1943 on p.18. The obit is on microfilm at the Greenville Public Library in case you want to get a copy, Dave. I made a handwritten summary of the obit. which is as follows: MRS. JENNIE GREER IVESTER - HONEA PATH Mrs. Jennie Greer Ivester, 57, died suddenly this afternoon (1 Jul) at 2:15 PM while at work at the Chiquola Mill. She was the widow of Lee Ivester and the daughter of D.P. Greer and Sanantha (Samantha?) Leach Greer. She is survived by a son, J.D. Ivester, and two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Thompson and Mrs. Virginia Black. Also surviving are two brothers, B.G. and C.R. Greer, and two sisters, Mrs Lizzie Pruitt and Miss Annie Greer. Funeral arrangements are to be announced. Hope this helps. Maybe Gary could update us on their family. Hi Edna, Yes I am interested in information on the Jackson Alexander Ivester family. He is an older brother to my Grandfather, Philip W. Ivester. I do have some information about him. The information I have is that He was born Dec 15, 1856 in Georgia. Was married on Dec 27, 1881 in Bradley Co TN to Laura Hagler who died on July 13, 1891. I thought they had two sons but I have no record of that. I have that he died on Dec 20, 1895 in Dayton, Rhea Co TN. I show a second marriage for him on June 25, 1892 in Rhea Co TN to a Carrie Hughes. I have no information on her and am not sure where I got the marriage information. If you have any other information on Jackson I would like to see it. Hi Everyone, Have been exchanging information with someone working on the Howell line in Missouri for quite some time now. She has come up with an idea concerning the children for John A. Ivester and I think she has a pretty good one. But.. would like to bounce it off all of you and see what you think. We show John A. Ivester with three marriages: 1. Martha Tillertson - abt 1867 2. Jane Smith - 10 Jan 1886 Stoddard Co., Mo 3. Elizabeth F. Dowdy Howell - 23 Apr 1889 Stoddard Co., Mo Based on the 1870 - 1880 - 1900 - and 1910 census we had the following children for John A. - with Martha 9 children - won't list all of them because their info isn't important to this question - with Jane Lexie F. - b. Sept 1886 - with Elizabeth George Washington - b. 25 May 1890 The 1900 census shows John A. Ivester - Francis his wife and John W. - son Dora B. - daug Mary A. - daug Laura E. - dau Lexie F. - daug - b. Sept 1885 George W. - son Based on that information we had Lexie F. as the daughter of John A. and Jane. Then I found this - 1889 - Mar. 6 - divorce record - final decree for John A. Ivester and wife Jane. No minor children were mentioned in the index but I have not seen the actual divorce record. Now.. John A.'s 3rd wife Elizabeth Frances Dowdy had a previous marriage to Samuel Howell. We know of 3 children for them: - Myra Howell - b. 31 Mar 1879 who later md William Batten Ivester son of John A. Ivester - Elexia Howell - Coswell B. Howell - abt 1876 Elexia would have to be born after the 1880 census as she does not appear there. Could Elexia Howell daug. of Elizabeth Frances Dowdy and Samuel Howell be the Lexie Ivester listed in the 1900 census as age 14 - b. Sept 1885 and not the child of John A. Ivester and Jane as we earlier thought? Any ideas????? Take care - Emma

I apologize Emma. Now that some of the fog has cleared, I believe it was you who mentioned the James David Ivester obituary. We talked about whether he was the same person as J. D. Otho Ivester md Susie Ethyl Morrison and they had the following children that we know of: Davis Ivester - 1920 Vivian Lee Ivester who md a ???? Garner Fannie Ivester who md a ???? Garner. The obit shows him being survivied by a step sister Viva Lee Garner. And preceeded in death by one brother Davis Ivester and a sister Fannie Garner. So it seems as if he is saying that Davis Ivester, Vivian Lee Ivester Garner and Fannie Ivester Garner are all his step siblings. For that to be correct then either Otho or his wife Susie had to have had another marrige. I think.... <g>. Maybe I need to go get a cup of coffee or something.... <g> Take care - Emma
OK Emma, this is the way I see it. Since his parents are Alford and Addie Mae. It means that Addie Mae was married before and that the Garner sisters were from her first marriage. Don't see where it has anything to do with Otho and Susie. Regina Hi Everyone, I found this one online and cannot figure out the connection. It shows one brother David Ivester and one sister Fannie Garner. This would appear to be the Otho Ivester and Susie Ethyl Morrison family and if my brain is working it would seem to mean that either Otho or Susie had another marriage. But I only have one marriage for each of them. Am I not thinking right here - what have I missed. Emma, I can't find anything on Anne Patton Ivester... but somewhere in the dark recesses of my mind, I seem to connect the name Patton with the Shirleys and, I think, Loudermilk. I know that's about as vague as it can get - but just thought I'd toss it out there. Fran
