1. Re: [IVESTER] Question about Harry Ivester?
2. Emma, I don't have any real information about this man - but an interesting story. In 1968, I met an attorney here in Reno (can't remember his name). He was an elderly man at that time and had probably practiced law a good ten years more than normal retirement age. Anyway... the subject of unusual last names came up and I jokingly told him that my maiden name (Ivester) would surely be one he had never heard. When I told him, he started laughing and said that his very first client, as a new attorney, was a Harry Ivester. He said that Harry was a real character, very eccentric, and considered himself the "last of the badboy-cowboys." This must have been in the late twenties - early thirties and Harry was still living on the edge - kinda skirting the fringe of the law. The attorney didn't know what had finally happened to Harry Ivester but, when I was working at the hospital here in Reno, I had an opportunity to look thru some microfische documents and lo and behold, there was Harry Ivester. He had been a patient there sometime in the (I can't remember for sure) 1940s. After seeing that, I looked in the phone book and there were no Ivesters so apparently Harry had no descendants - or at least they didn't stay in Nevada. Back in those days (late 60's) - there was only one phone book for the whole state of Nevada. Sorry I can't provide any info on Harry - but thought you would enjoy the story. Fran

3. Hi Emma, Joseph Wilson and Clara A Pell Ivester had 3 sons, all of whom moved west. The oldest was Henry J."Harry" Ivester, b. 14 May 1882. The second was William Ray Ivester, b. Apr 1885. The third son was Clyde J. (or vice versa) Ivester b. Dec 1888. Joseph Wilson was the son of Anderson Hugh Ivester. Edna ENC6@aol.com wrote:Hi Everyone, I have a Harry Ivester that I cannot identify. 1. [IVESTER] Thomas Brown
2. HI Everyone, Am sure that all of you know by now that Hugh Ivester (Isbister) came from the Orkney Island on the ship Marlborough as an indentured servant to Thomas Brown. Now.. Thomas Brown was quite a person in the Revolution - for the British. A year or so ago Edna found a book on Thomas Brown - The King's Ranger: Thomas Brown and the American Revolution on the Southern Frontier by Edward J. Cashin. It is very interesting to read. This book also won the 1990 Fraunces Tavern Book Award of the American Revolution Round Table. There are also several web sites that have information about Thomas Brown. I thought some of you might enjoy checking them out as well. FLORIDA SOCIETY SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION New Port Richey Florida Chapter Augusta.com - Ultimate source of news, information, and entertainment for Augusta, Georgia. index Royal Provincial Ranger Corps American Revolution in South Carolina: By Topic -- South Carolina Historical Society Has copies of letters to Brown - do a find on the name Brown Reading American Revolution in South Carolina: By Date -- South Carolina Historical Society The Olive Tree Genealogy: Loyalist Databases Mayham Tower Moses Kirkland Loyalist Institute: Index to King's Carolina Rangers History Battle of the Siege of Savannah SATILLA RIVER: SITE OF FORT MCINTOSH Lossing's Field Book of the Revolution, Vol. II., Chapter XIX. Hope all these links work for you. Lavina (d/o Hugh, Jr.) Newell Bright/Trist Stewart (s/o William & Lavina) ** Virgil Lamar/Louise Peace (s/o Newell Bright) Preston Virgil - my father. Note: Louise Peace is supposedly descended from a Samuel Ivester - possibly brother, uncle or cousin to Hugh - but can't find any other info on him. Fran
