    1. [IVESTER] Message from List Admin - Please Read......
    2. Good Evening Everyone, This is an FYI only. Please do NOT discuss this message on the list. Please send any comments you might have to me at the address posted on the bottom of each message to this list. We are about to enter a challenging political time when emotions and opinions will vary in many directions. Political discussions can be painful and divisive in the best of times. Times of stress only increase that concern. In the past, similar political situations have been known to cause significant disturbances on some mail lists. Therefore, RootsWeb staff have asked us to remind everyone that RootsWeb is for genealogical research and not for political discussions. List admins have been directed by RootsWeb to deal with any concerns kindly but quickly and firmly - and that is what I will attempt to do. Therefore, please refrain from any political discussion in either messages and/or signature lines. Let's keep the mail lists a haven for all of us to come to and enjoy our genealogical exchanges. Again, I ask that you not discuss this message or any inappropriate message on the list but contact me privately with any questions or concerns. Thank you so much - Emma

    2. RootsWeb will be performing scheduled maintenance Wednesday 12, March 2003 between 1 - 4 am MST on the following servers: free pages, www, news, archives, cgi, and list searches. Actual off-line time for a server could be about one day. It does not appear that the mail lists themselves will be impacted in terms of sending and receiving messages but your messages won't show up in the archives for a bit. Take care all - Emma

    2. For some reason Mike's message bounced. Will work on that but in the meantime I am forwarding his messge on to the list. It was my pleasure, being able to spend some time with you and your family...after all, we are all family! For all of you who have done family research, run into roadblocks, get discouraged,etc....Emma is and should be an inspiration to us all. She has more information on the Ivester Clan than most libraries! I thought that I had quite a bit of info on my part of the family, but Emma has literally 100+ binders on the Ivester family. I was able to share some of my info with her as well as many photos of my clan that I burned onto a CD for her. I encourage all of us as we travel across this great country, to welcome other Ivester's into your homes. I have visited Emma, Janice and Francis in my travels and am a better person for it. They have welcomed me into their homes without any hesitation, and I encourage all of us to follow that example. I know that any and all are always welcome to my home if ever in the St. Louis area. Once again, thanks to Emma for her inspiration Michael

    1. Re: [IVESTER] (no subject)
    2. Boy.. are you ever right. This one is a problem in more ways than one. But part of the problem is that they keep changing names so it is hard to keep up with them. You will find postings on lots of lists from folks who have sent them money only to discover it is fraud. You might like to check this web site for additional information: http://blacksheep.rootsweb.com/ And... I would like to add another bit of information here. While I am not out to start a major discussion on this topic I would like to offer an explanation of my feelings. There is actually a big discussion right now on the listowners mail list concerning sending this type of information to the mail lists. Some list admins feel this is off topic and should not be sent while others feel they should warn folks on their lists and keep others from being "taken". I tend to believe that "warnings" or information like this is helpful and don't view them as off topic. The subject is genealogy and I would hate to see any one on this list or any other spend money and get nothing in return. At the same time, be cautious in posting this kind of information on other lists. Some lists admins do not feel the same as I do.... <g> Thanks for sharing this. Take care - Emma In a message dated 2/28/2003 6:03:08 PM Central Standard Time, Famfinder2@aol.com writes: Hello everyone. I am sending this message as a warning to everyone subscribed to my lists. There is a new/old scam going on at www.genseekers.com By new/old I mean they had this scam before a few years ago, but now they are back! Please don't fall for this scam. They basically charge you for information that is free elsewhere on the web and offer "5 days free trial before you buy" BUT, (and this is a big but!) in order to get this "free" trial, you have to give your credit card info and cancel within 5 days (that should ALWAYS be a warning sign of a scam)! Here is a copy of a message that I received about it. Please pass this on, especially to genealogist who are new to the internet.

    1. [IVESTER] FYI and a bit off topic
    2. Good Evening Everyone, The list has certainly gone quiet so I guess everyone is busy. I know I have been rather busy. I also know that there are some messages I need to respond to and will try to do so in the next couple of days. I did want to let all of you know what a nice evening my family and I had last Friday. Mike Ivester from Missouri was in town for a conference and he was able to come out to the house for a while. I understand that several of you have already had the pleasure of meeting him. We really did have a grand visit. AND... he did a admirable job of surviving Shannon, Shawn, and 4 dogs not to mention me.... <g>. He really impressed everyone when we realized that Snickers (our oldest dog) was quite taken with him. The unusual thing about this is that Snickers was an abused dog and was beaten by two young men who had her for the first 18 months of her life. Not only was she beaten but she was locked in a closet for long hours and they also managed to crush her hip which required surgery. So she is often quite hesitant around men. Yet here she was - going over to sit by him and asking him to pet her. As I said, we had a grand visit - shared information - talked about some Ivester puzzles and in general had a very nice time indeed. Hope all of you had a great weekend as well. Take care - Emma

Hello everyone.  I am sending this message as a warning to everyone subscribed to my lists.  There is a new/old scam going on at www.genseekers.com  By new/old I mean they had this scam before a few years ago, but now they are back!  Please don't fall for this scam. 1. [IVESTER] Whisenant & Whisnant
    2. Hi Everyone, I was just checking the adoptable lists and found that the Whisenant and Whisnant rootsweb mail lists are up for adoption. Right now they don't have a list admin. Since some of you are working on that name I thought I would let you know. Being a list admin is both fun and challenging and I just know there are some folks on this list who might be interested.......... I would be happy to help get you started and there are other folks to help too. Let me know if you might be interested - take care - Emma

    1. [IVESTER] FYI concerning list
    2. Good Morning Everyone, Just a bit of information for all of you. First of all - we now have 38 subscribers to the regular mail list and 5 subscribers to the digest version. More importantly right now...... Please be aware that there appears to be a problem with MSN users and the rootsweb mail lists. MSN users are bouncing because of a hangup at MSN. You won't bounce off of the slower lists as soon as you will the busier ones. You might want to go to password central and ask for a list of mail lists that you are subscribed to just to make sure you are still on this lists you want. To do that go to this URL: <A HREF="http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/">RW - Password Central</A> http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com And finally, you will probably want to work with MSN in an attempt to get the problem solved. I hope all of you have a wonderful day. Take care - Emma

    1. Re: [IVESTER] Jacob F & Lena K
    2. Ruby, Thanks so much for the Jacob F. Ivester and Lena information. This is wonderful. Now... It sure looks as if we have another marriage for Jacob F. Ivester. So far it looks like this: Marriage 1: Francis M Norman children: Ida Em - July 1880 Marion Labot - 11 July 1883 Marriage 2: Elizabeth Davis - md 3 July 1884 in Stoddard Co., Mo children: Alice L. - Feb 1886 Lula M. - Jan 1894 Barbara E. - Sept 1896 Marriage 3: Amanda C. Neal Heflin - md 13 Apr 1902 in Stoddard Co., Mo children: Jacob W. Ivester - 14 Feb 1904 Marriage 4: Lena - Divorced 29 Mar 1923 And it is looking as if both Jacob F. and his son Jacob W. spent time in trouble with the law. Now............. you keep going through those papers..... <grin>. Thanks again so much and take care - Emma
