Hi Fran, Here is what the Family Tree Maker textbook p. 307-8 has to say; "Kinship: Canon & Civil---- Kinship reports list the names, relationships, and relationship degrees of the primary individual's blood relatives and their spouses, as well as the blood relatives of the primary individual's spouse(s)..... The "degree of a relationship is a legal term. It refers to the number of "steps" between two individuals who are blood relatives. The degree in Civil law represents the total number of steps through the bloodline that separate two individuals. For example, there are two steps from you to your grandparent and then two steps back down to your first cousin, so the degree is four. The degree in Canon law measures the maximum number of steps from the nearest common ancestor. Your grandparent is the the nearest common ancestor between you and your first cousin, so in this case the degree would be two. Canon law is used in most of the United States. If two individuals are related in more than one way, Family Tree Maker displays each of the relationships in the Kinship report. For example if two cousins marry, each of the relationships between them would be included." Edna - I just got a letter from a granddaughter of William Oscar Ivester. Her aunt (Marie - they called her "Dick") was married to a Holbrooks - and that is how they spelled it - with an "s." This Marie is the sister of Eunice Ivester who married the Nix, Annie Ivester who married Baxter, and Ethel Lee who married Ayers... so I'm pretty sure this Holbrooks is the same family. Fran
Emma, Emma Louvenia (Ivester) Holbrook died 29 April 1949 per the Georgia Deaths Index D/C# 17293 at the age of 71 in Habersham County, Ga. On the surname of Holbrook(s) I am not sure if it should have an "s" or not, however, both Louvenia's and Alexander's (D/C32801 d.29 Dec 1957 Habersham County age 83) death certificates show Holbrook, no s. As to your question "Who is Wallace Moorland?" I believe the census may read "Cleveland, Wallace 12" not that that answers which of the daughters was his mother. My opinion is that it was more likely Susie based on the ages of the 2 daughters. 1880 Census Habersham 422 District (Deep Creek) ED130-40 Image 40 Holbrook, W I and Annie parents of Alexander. 1900 Census Habersham Deep Creek ED62-5A 1910 Census Habersham Deep Creek ED72-7A 1920 Census not found do you have it? Emma, Sorry it is E.D. 61- 5B &6A. I didn't have the 1880 census. When I looked it up, I noticed that there was a James M. and Harriett Ramsey on the same page who are probably John's parents. Also, listed on the page Nancy A. Roberts with her daughter Nancy J. who married Jessie Richard Ivester. First of all... as far as I know we don't have anyone on the list working on the Barbara Ivester/David Fry line. Am I right everyone??????? Then... I am a bit confused. In 1910 I show the Clarkesville Twp to be ED #70 - I chedked there on pg. 5B and did not see them. There is an ED #39 in Franklin Co., but did not find them there either. HELP!! But... if this is the right Mary and it sure looks good then she lived with them for a very long time because I found them in the 1880 census - Georgia - Habersham - ED #128 - pg. 617A - img. 13 John Ramsey - 20 - farmer - Ga-Ga-Ga Georgina - 17 - wife - keeping house - Ga-Ga-Ga Fry, Mary - 36 - mother-in-law - at home - Ga-Ga-Ga It would help if we could find where Mary is in 1870. Would love to see the pictures. If you read my last e-mail, you'll find I'm slowly getting attached to this family - that I've never met. Feel like I've known them forever. <grin>
sorry, I misspelled Annie
She's a cute girl. I have pictures of them somewhere. If I run across them,I will send them to you.
Was Ruth's sister's name Annis - I have it as Annie? About Portia, apparently she was an airline stewardess back in (I think) the 60's and visited my grandparents in Los Angeles. My cousin, who lived next-door to my grandparents, spent quite a bit of time with her while she was there and when he found out I was researching Ivesters, he asked if I had come across her name. At that time, I had not. He was just wondering what ever happened to her. I'm not supposed to say this... but I think he was a little "smitten" with her. Doesn't that sound like an oldies word? Thanks for the info. Fran
I went to school with Jane Stasney and was over at their house a lot. Ruth had a sister named Annis and she married a Baxter. Jane and Kenneth live in Greenville,S.C. I don't know where Porcia lives.
I don't have any info on Ruth Ivester Stasney. Awhile back I was trying to find her daughter, Portia Stasney for one of my cousins. At that time, all he could remember was that her mother was an Invester but couldn't remember her first name or who her father was. I just found out yesterday that Ruth was the daughter of William Oscar who was my grandfather's brother. Only yesterday did I realize that Ruth was the Stasney - mother of Portia. Don't know her other children. Sorry.
Fran, Do you have Jame as a daughter of Jeff and Ruth Stasney. They also have a son,Kenneth and another daughter,Porchia

Regina, with all due repect, anyone who saw the game knows that Clemson outplayed and outgained UGA, and should have won. Nevertheless, I congratulate the Dawgs on their lucky win. Wait till we get you in the Valley next year! Thanks Edna... As usual, shortly after I sent out the cry for help, my aunt called me to say she had found some old letters and that "Coon's" real name was David. Can't wait to tell her that his middle name was Reno (that's where I live). Thanks again. I know I can always rely on you and Emma. Your wealth of information is a treasure for all of us and your willingness to share, even more so. Fran
