    2. teresa angle
    3. I have had great success tracing back to my great great grandfather, Thomas Marion Johnson, born AL (appears IT) June 19, 1828. He died May 17, 1896 in Hokes Bluff AL. He married Susannah Jane Griffith, born July 4, 1831 in Dekalb Co GA. She died Feb. 13, 1878. I can find very little on her, although I think her father was William Vardamond Griffith and her mother may have been Phebe Farlin. (both born in GA....and some speculation they were Creek). The Johnsons were Cherokee, and intermarried with several well known Cherokee families, i.e. the Vanns, Sansoms, Hopkins, etc. I have sketchy info on Thomas Marion's mother....perhaps named Mary and born SC. But not much else. I would love to find his parents, migration, or more info on her, or any "cousins" that I haven't already found! Also, any info on siblings would be great. I have some on Christopher Bullard Johnson, but that's it. I also have the following POSSIBLE siblings for Thomas Marion Johnson: Christopher Bullard Johnson (this one is for sure....he later migrated to Texas and died there) Benjamin Johnson Elijah Johnson John Johnson Joseph Johnson Lafayette Johnson Moses Johnson Eliza Johnson I am NOT SURE about any siblings, but this is info I've received from other descendants who are having a tough time as well! The children of Thomas Marion and Susannah Jane were: (this is well documented) George Vardamond Johnson b. Sept. 4, 1849 married Nancy Jane Hopkins (who marched the Trail then rode home to marry him) He is buried in Hokes Bluff Mary Ann Phobe Johnson b 9 Mar 1871 married Marion Franklin Pike, died Hokes Bluff Frances Dorcas Johnson b 9 nov 1854 married James Eli Handy, died Hokes Bluff (Hokes Bluff must be nice...they never left!) Nancy Caroline Johnson b 25 Mar 1856, married Wm Newton Walden, buried Lander's cemetary Martha Eveline Johnson b 18 Feb 1858 married James Shelly Reeves, buried New Bethel cemetary Thomas Lafayette Johnson, b 12 Apr 1860, married Mary Jane Hancock Henrietta Jane Johnson, b 8 Apr 1862 never married Louisa Bullard Johnson b 17 Apr 1864 married Felix Andrew (Bud) Mitchell died Hokes Bluff Sarah Catherine Johnson b 18 Mar 1866 married Richard Hardy buried New Bethel Julia Victoria Johnson b 23 Apr 1868 married Jeremiah M LaFollette buried New Bethel Jefferson Alford Johnson b 26 Apr 1870 married Anna Johnson buried Piedmont Jo Ella Johnson b 7 Dec 1873 married Wm. Macon Lane buried New Bethel Margaret Florence Johnson (my great grandmother) bor Apr 17, 1875 married Robert Lee Shortnacy, died Alabama All were born in AL, mostly Hokes Bluff, which I think is Etowah County. I have 3 Dawes packets which match on names and birth dates, but spouses are different, so not really a match. If anyone has a clue, let me know! You can email me at [email protected] THANKS!

    2. Jeannine Burks
    3. Sandi; I'll be more than happy to post my "brick walls" as it seems lately that all I do have. The 1st is Ellen Bromley (1848/51-1921) m. Prussian born, Frederick Berger (1844-1917) in Gasconade Co, MO, 27 Aug. 1870. I have a copy of their mar' lic' & several other doc', ea. with a different spelling of her last name (same w/Berger). Only Census she's been found on, to date, has been 1870 Gasconade Co, Census, she was listed as 19 yrs of age & living in the Berger household in Morrison, MO. She & Fred' had 8 children (I have photos of most the grave markers), all are bur' Saline Co, MO. Another "brick wall" is James Burks (no dates yet) m. Ann Eliz. Wallace (1858-1932), 3 sons were Jas. Isaac (1875-1939), Jesse B. (1885-?) & Robert (no dates). Ann is bur' w/her 2nd husband, Pressley A. Radar, also Saline Co. Jas. Isaac (my husband's father) born in IN. re' my husband's b'certificate . Ann & Radar had several children also, but can't recall their names off the top of my head, at present. Any/all info re' the above, would be Heaven sent. Thank you !!! ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, April 06, 2001 12:31 AM Subject: [IT-INDIAN] NEW PEOPLE ON THE LIST > Hi All: > > Since we are getting more new people on the IT-INDIAN and IT-WHITE lists, > would you all mind posting your "brick wall" people and family surnames. 1. Re: [IT-INDIAN] NEW PEOPLE ON THE LIST
    2. Nancy Griffin
    3. Hi group! Here is my "brick wall" person: Josephine JONES is my brick wall. My mother told me that she was originally from North Carolina, was half Cherokee and that she smoked a clay pipe with an Indian face scratched on the front of the bowl. She also told me that "Gran" CATHEY, as she was called, died when my mother, Maudie MCNEELY was 12 years old. My mother was born on March 14, 1917 so the year of Josie's death would have been 1929 or 1930, if my mother recalled correctly. Here is what I know about her: She had a brother named Arch JONES Josephine JONES (b: ~1831 in NC; d: ~1929 in Marshall County, KY) who married George H. CATHEY, a.k.a.: Buck CATHEY (b: ~1839; d: ~1869 In Maury County/Williamson?, TN), they had a son: William Henry CATHEY (b: 10/12/1861; d: 6/6/1936 in Paducah, KY) who married Sarah Jane FILBECK (b: 9/21/1861 in TN; d: 9/20/1937 in Paducah, KY) who was from TN and was the daughter of John William FILBECKand Elizabeth GIBBS. After George CATHEY died in 1869, Josephine married George's brother, John A. CATHEY (b: ~1838 d: ?) John CATHEY is listed as this woman's father with Josephine JONES as her mother on her death certificate: Ellen Gertrude MATHIS (b:12/29/1872; d: 6/12/1949 in Marshall County, KY) According to this man's birthdate and George H. CATHEY'S date of death, he would had to have been the son of John A. CATHEY and Josephine JONES: Jasper CATHEY (b: 9/15/1870; d: 12/10/1919) Josephine JONES had another child with one of these men, but I have no date of birth to figure out which man was her father: Matt (CATHEY) MILLER - a daughter There was another child of John A. CATHEY, that was not a child of Josephine JONES and that was: Tom CATHEY family surnames: JONES*CATHEY*FILBECK*GIBBS*MILLER*MATHIS*MCNEELY*EAGLE*GINN I hope this information is useful to someone and I have my fingers crossed that someone else may have some information that will help me fill in some blanks. Thanks for any help! Nancy

    1. [IT-INDIAN] AOL VERSION 6.0 ROOTSWEB PROBLEMS
    2. Hi All: If you have the new 6.0 AOL your posts to Rootsweb mailing lists are bouncing back to you because they are automatically put into html format. Rootsweb, as you know, only accepts simple text. Please try this solution: 1) Compose the email in the usual way 2) Right click inside the text area 3) Click Select All (at bottom of menu) 4) Right click inside the text area (again) 5) Click Text 6) Click Normal Then send the email in the usual way. That should eliminate all Rootsweb bounces. Best, Sandi Carter

    1. [IT-INDIAN] Crow Family
    2. armenta
    3. Attn Karen: My gg-grandparents are John VanBuren Crow, 1835, Dalton GA. Married Josephine Kirby, 1842, They married in Alabama then moved to Sherman Texas, had several children and are buried there. Their daughter Mary Elizabeth Crow, 1864, married James (LL) Elonza Gibson, 1861, of Wise County, Texas about 1882. They moved into the Chikasaw Nation, Carter County (Ara) Indian Territory about 1886. I don't know of the Crow's having Indian Blood but the Gibson's are Eastern Cherokee from GA and MS. I do not find that there is a connection of our Crow's. I entered mine hoping I could help someone else or I would get some information for my Surnames. Armenta.......
