    1. Re: [IT-INDIAN] Re: Tracing Your Native American Ancesters
    2. Jeffrey, I don't know if I have Native ancestery but my Mother thinks there is Choctaw. My great-grandparents were married on Aug. 14, 1892 at Iron Bridge, IT. He was James Robert ROBERTSON, son of James C. and R.C. (Rhetta?) (GRIER) ROBERTSON. Supposedly they came from North Carolina, but I haven't been able to find them anywhere in the 1880 census. James R. was listed in one census as being born in North Carolina and another in Illinois. R.C. died in 1890 in Crawford Co., Arkansas and naturally, I can find nothing else on her death or burial. I realize that state/territory lines were not always where people thought they were. I have no idea what James C. and his family were doing in IT. My great-grandmother was Ida Clementine ROLLINS. Her parents were John and Linda (?) ROLLINS. He was said to have been killed in a mining accident in McCurtain, IT probably before 1892 as he is not listed on the marriage certificate. Linda did sign it giving permission. Ida listed her birthplace as Arkansas and her parents as Alabama or Mississippi. I have found no mention of this family in the 1880 census and again have no idea how or why they were in IT. James R. and Ida are buried in Checotah. Any suggestions as to how I can find out more about them and their parents & siblings would be greatly appreciated. Hope this wasn't too long. Thank you. 1. RE: Linguistic Families
    2. Judy White
    3. NA Nations is proud to release the "Indian Linguistic Families of America" to our growing website. Covering only those tribes north of Mexico, this book can assist you in discovering your Native American ancestors. For example, in the Algonquian Family it lists 35 different tribes as members, some of which have changed over the years. The listing however might give you a clue as to why we often have people say their family was Blackfoot but lived in Pennsylvania or New York. Most of us think of the Blackfoot Nation as being in Montana or Canada. But the Algonquian as a linguistic family, are members of both. The reader should remember while perusing this manuscript, that it was based on known facts in 1891, and that those facts have not been updated or corrected. The book also provides you with additional reading on many of the tribes. We have linked the tribes to AccessGenealogy's Indian history pages, giving you the opportunity to check back and forth for additional histories and customs. http://www.nanations.com/linguistic_families.htm Please enjoy and pass the message along to others.
