    1. [IT-INDIAN] Festus Brown
    2. I desperately need help in finding the parents of Festus Brown. He married Sarah Louisa Wallace (Wallis) December 12, 1880 in Sevier County, Ark. Festus was born about 1861 as was Louisa. Louisa's parents were Augustus Wallace(Wallis) was died in the 1861 in the Civil War. I found were Festus was living with his cousin Jas. Castle in 1880 before he married. He stated that his parents were born in Tenn. He also stated that he was born in Ark. But some family stories suggest Texas. It is also said that Festus was Choctaw/Irish and Louisa was a full blood Choctaw. There son Charles Augustus Brown was my Great Grandfather. He also used the name Charley Brown. Charley married Hattie Johnson, who family stories suggest her real name was Touster or something simliar. She was said to be full blood Cherokee. Her father was Enoch Monroe Johnson and her mother Lula Cavins. They both died in Oklahoma. My Grandmother told on her death bed that she was registered with a tribe and had a number but did not state what tribe, where or the number. She burned everything she owned. Her birth name was Clara Brown, born Jan 2 1921. She was a twin. After her birth they changed her name to Lula May Brown. I think the other twin died at birth. She married Glen Powell, then Charles Hegele. In the 70's she legally changed her name to Natasha Chucalate. She died May 2002. I really need help finding Festus's parents and if my Grandmother was registered with a tribe. Thanks Rebecca

    3. Judy, I looked at ancestry com for your ancestor, Wm Yancey L Hatcher. There was an entry for him but you indicated you were most interested in where he died and where buried. This info was posted by a Nell Hatcher nelhatch@hills.net She states there is a Hatcher Families Resource Center. So you can contact her at the above email address or go to google and type in hatcher families resource center. It will bring up that website and it looks very interesting. The entry at ancestry for William Yancey l Hatcher by nell Hatcher only shows that Wm died 1899-1901 Choctaw nation, Ok ? So apparently they don't know where Wm is buried. I would still contact Nell if I were you. Jackie

    3. I'm sorry, but I'm afraid that I have almost no information on my Jane Self of Texas or of my Daisy Self of Oklahoma. In fact, these are the only two Self names I have in my database because I simply cannot find anything about either of these two women. I have even sent numerous messages to the Self/Selph family list, but I have never received even one response. I don't know for sure if they are even getting my requests for information. I can't get any kind of response. I sure hope you have better luck than I have had with the Self surname, and I am really sorry I couldn't help you. Janet I truly hope you have better luck than I have had with the Self surname. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Tolbert" <plantlady25@juno.com> To: <IT-INDIAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 19, 2003 12:04 PM Subject: Re: [IT-INDIAN] Researching names Cloud, Moody, Self > Janet, I am trying to help a gentleman who is researching Self and > unknown. 1. [IT-INDIAN] new genealogy newsgroup announcement
    2. acp
    3. Newsgroup Announcement: For those of you who are familiar with the USENET binary newsgroups, there is a new one for genealogy researchers. The name of the newsgroup is: alt.binaries.e-book.genealogy Shortly, there will be a corresponding "discussion" group for the new newsgroup: alt.binaries.e-book.genealogy.d NEWSGROUP PURPOSE: The purpose of the new newsgroup (alt.binaries.e-book.genealogy) is to provide a place to share scanned genealogy books, genealogy books from CD and other printed genealogical materials. This is where you may find and share those old, out of print or never published materials and unidentified photos, which people have stuck in their closets. :-) This newsgroup will be of greatest interest to those who are already familiar with USENET and newsgroups, specifically binary newsgroups. If you don't know about newsgroups, and the huge amount of genealogical info that flows freely across USENET each day, then please ask one of your computer literate friends to explain how to access newsgroups (sometimes relanguaged to the term "discussion groups"). List Admin: If I have accidentally sent this to a list where I'm no longer a member, will you please post it to the group for me?? Note: This is NOT spam. I'm making an announcement about a free newsgroup. As anyone familiar w/ USENET knows, there is no profit in this at all. My only interest is -- I want more people to subscribe, because more group members will mean more information is being shared (some might help with my brickwalls). :-)

    1. [IT-INDIAN] URGENT! WORM ALERT!
    2. Just now, many Internet users are experiencing problems with their computers shutting down abruptly. It is the result of a computer vulnerability and is being experienced by computer users around the world. It is due to a computer worm that scans computers checking to see if port 135 is open. If so, the worm takes advantage of the computer and shuts it down. If your computer has not been infected, you should go to one of the web sites shown below to update your anti-virus software or install a patch to prevent infection. Here is a Microsoft bulletin regarding this vulnerability: http://www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/ms03-026.asp Here is an update from Symantec: http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/security/Content/8205.html Here is an update from McAfee: http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp? id=description&virus_k=100547 If your computer becomes infected and gets shut down, you will need to follow these steps (you may want to print them for future reference): Unplug modem. Attention: PC users I felt this was important enough to send to all my lists. I've been hearing about it all day on the TV news. So, please read and beware! Best, Sandi Carter List mom Restart computer. Go to Start / Search / For Files and Folders. Confirm that Look in is set for C: drive. Search for files and folders named: "MSBLAST.exe" When computer finds the msblast file(s), right click on the file names and delete all copies of the file. Shut down the machine. Plug the modem back in. Restart the machine. Go directly to one of the web sites above and install the patch and/or update.

    3. Thank you Gene. My father Ronnie Earl Norwood was also in the Navy over 30 years ago. He was in Texas where he met my mother. I have many John Norwood ancestors, but don't know of any living John Norwoods. As I was not raised with my father's family. I do know of a Norwood family enrolled with the Cherokee of Oklahoma. Per the Dawes; Andrew Henderson Norwood married Alice GOURD daughter of Rattlinggourd. That's about all that I do know of them. Andrew was a cousin of one of my John Norwood's. There are also supose to be Choctaw Norwoods, but I haven't met them. I believe once I find my great grandmother's maiden name, I'll find out which Tribe my grandmother was enrolled into. It's difficult, not many Cushion, Cutchen ect.. researchers out there. My grandmother's family was from FL and AL and I grew up in California. It's difficult, but I am pulling down the wall brick by brick. Thanks.
