    1. [IT-CHICKASAW] new list home is INDIAN-TERRITORY-CHICKASAW
    2. Timothy Stowell
    3. The new home for the IT-Chickasaw list is ready to go. In a few minutes, I'll send out personal invitations to the subscribers of this list who wish to join the new group will be able to do so. I can not add members directly. It should be a link you can click that will let you 'accept' the invitation to join the new group. You may need to check your spam folder as I can't say when such will be delivered. If you don't find an invitation in your email you may also go to this site - https://groups.io/g/INDIAN-TERRITORY-CHICKASAW and select Join Group. Folks may continue to post to this list through tomorrow 3/1. Tim Stowell

    3. There are two indexes of list. One is the entire list of lists that is available at rootsweb. The other is the list of lists that to which you are subscribed. If you are registered and logged in, there is a drop down menu that has your username on the right side of the page near the top. Under this menu, there is a selection for "Mailman Settings" This is where you find your lists. In that list there are two columns of links. The links in the List Name colum will take you to a list info and the link to take you to the archives for the list. The links in the left hand column will take you to the page where you can personal preference in how you want the list to operate for you. 3. my grandfather was cecil holder, he was listed on the Daws roll's by his father in Indian territory Oklahoma when he was 7. He also denied his Indian heritage when he went into the Army, but continued to receive $$$ form the bureau of Indian affairs until his death....you might check with them....also his father received land in Okla. as part payment for land taken in Tenn. They migrated gun point to Texas and Indian territory....when settlers settled tenn. you might look for deeds in indian territory, there were also cences done in the territory for several years that listed my famuily, not national, territorial censes to count the Indians....you might check these..good luck....you can also check with the tribe in Oklahoma.... ----- Original Message ----- From: "rex cole" <colewoolies@cableone.net> To: <it-chickasaw@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 13, 2010 4:56 AM Subject: Re: [IT-CHICKASAW] johnsons > Martha > How very true the state u made, " being told to deny Indian heritage". > When > father, at the age of about 30, understood his Indian heritage and past, > was he able to accept his fathers reasons for denying it. > I agree, also, those past stories need to be told. 3. Martha How very true the state u made, " being told to deny Indian heritage". When father, at the age of about 30, understood his Indian heritage and past, was he able to accept his fathers reasons for denying it. I agree, also, those past stories need to be told. I'm just so afraid, no one is left in my family (Watkins) to pass the stories on. They died with the shame of being Indian with them thanks, Linda (Watkins) Cole ----- Original Message ----- From: <MSlater106@aol.com> To: <it-chickasaw@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 12, 2010 7:58 PM Subject: Re: [IT-CHICKASAW] johnsons > To the person asking about the Johnson surname: > > My Johnson ancestor who fought in the Revolution was John Johnson, b. > about > 1740 VA, went to Georgia after the war, settled in the part of Wilkes that > became Oglethorpe County. 2. To the person asking about the Johnson surname: My Johnson ancestor who fought in the Revolution was John Johnson, b. about 1740 VA, went to Georgia after the war, settled in the part of Wilkes that became Oglethorpe County. He married Sarah Upton. Their daughter Elizabeth (my ancestor) married Patton Wise, son of Joseph Wise and Margaret Patton. Eventually many of my VA/GA ancestors went to Texas and a few to IT. The Indian question is in all our families. We know it's true, but none of mine signed on for Dawes, and in fact, children were told to deny their blood when they went to school. I keep thinking someone, sometime will unlock all those untold stories. We can wish. Martha

    3. Danny Good luck to you. my family is Cherokee. With the surname of Watkins. grandfather was full blood. 20 years of research have discovered no records. nothing on the Dawes roll. I did find info with the US military, because my grandfather was in the Army during WW1. however nothing to indicate native American. If your family was like, they refused to be registered or recognized as Indians. Sometimes birth records were kept in family bibles, or and elder who kept important papers wrapped in animal skins. again good luck Linda (Watkins) Cole ----- Original Message ----- From: <danny151@centurytel.net> To: <itchocta@rootsweb.com>; <IT-CHICKASAW@rootsweb.com>; <IT-WHITE@rootsweb.com>; <IT-INDIAN@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 11, 2010 5:06 PM Subject: [IT-CHICKASAW] johnsons >I would like to correspond with family members related to me.
