Hi Eileen I think the store you remember was Hills Stores in Ryde, a general merchandise store selling household goods, china and cutlery, fabric, etc; it was on the corner of Newport Street and the High Street. This was back in the 1950s when I was little so I cannot place where; perhaps it was just the shops name? -----Original Message----- From: SALLY-ANN GARRETT [mailto:sallyann.garrett2@btinternet.com] Sent: 02 December 2004 23:23 To: ISLE-OF-WIGHT-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IoW] Where if Hillyards? Hi John There is a Hilyards Crescent in Shanklin, on the border with Lake, a turning off Green Lane, next to Cemetery Road. Is this likely? Its a bit away from Brading, and certainly not in the Ryde area. More likely is a house by the name, Hillyards, but it is not one I am familiar with Sally-Ann Hello, I have just received a birth certificate for Thomas William HARDING, the son of Henry George HARDING (my gt.gt.Grandfather) and Ann HARDING (HORLOCK). The birth on the sixteenth of July 1846, is shown as being in the District of Ryde and the birth address is given as Hillyards. Does anyone please know what or where this is? It could be in the Brading area. Any ideas would be most welcome. John of Kent
