A cousin with MEW ancestry has sent me this reference for the surname. In his own research he hadn't previously come across any record of a Manor of Mew, and I'm wondering whether anyone can enlighten us. Thanks Ron Duninng "Spelling variations include: Mew, Mews, Mewes, Meux, Mewis, Muse, Mewsse, Mowse, Meaux and many more. First found in the Isle of Wight in Hampshire where they were anciently seated as Lords of the Manor of Mew, some say from the time of the Norman Conquest, but more likely to be from the 12th or 13th century when the first Flemish industrialists entered England."
