    3. Hello all, for future reference to researchers here is what we believe to now be the info for this paticular branch of the LOCK family on the IOW. William (yeoman)m. Sarah ARTHUR (widow) 1703 Northwood.Sarah died 30/8/1706 William (widower) m. Mary COOKE 1707 Thorley. Son William (yeoman)1709 m. Elizabeth LODGE 1734 Brooke. Son William(yeoman) b.1746 Brighstone m. Martha MORTIMER 1773 Carisbrooke. Son James(yeoman) b.14/5/1774 Gatcombe,ch.21/8/1774 m.Rachel ROLF 20/10/1804 Shorwell, daughter of Robert ROLF and Mary SMALL (m.1777 Carisbrooke) bp.13/2/1780 Godshill. Children James LOCK 1805 Shorwell (unmarried in 1881 census). Martha LOCK 1807 Shorwell Sarah LOCK ch. 19/3/1809 Shorwell mother Rachel was buried the same day. James Lock (widow) m. Ruth ROLF 16/4/1810 St Marys Portsea, daughter of Robert ROLF and Mary SMALL ch.15/11/1789 Godshill, (sisters). They had the following children Elizabeth,William m. Caroline COLE 26/1/1836,Henry,Maria, Robert m. Francis WAY 1/7/1846,Edward,John,Emma, Jane m. Samuel PADWICK of East Meon 1848 Shorwell and Edwin. James LOCK b,14/5/1774 was a Yeoman at Smallmoor and then later at Rowborough, in 1853 all stock and contents of the farm were sold at an auction ( a photocopy of the goods sold are at the record office). In the 1851 census James the son(1805) is at East Meon, with his step sisters Maria Lock and Jane Padwick. In the 1881 census James is still living at East Meon at Court Farm with two Padwick nieces. On the Monumental Inscriptions for East Meon found on Hampshire Family History site are the following. James LOCK b.14/5/1774 d.5/3/1854 Edwin LOCK b. 4/8/1827 d.29/3/1861 Ruth LOCK widow of James b.28/10/1789 d.7/10/1868 Maria LOCK d.11/4/1877 age 60 of Court House Emma LOCK d.22/11/1880 age 50 of Court Farm James LOCK d.1/10/1885 age 80 of Court Farm Jane Padwick d.3/7/1890 age 66 also buried at East Meon is the son of William LOCK and Caroline COLE, Thomas Cole Lock and his wife Alice Mary BATH. I hope that this in some way helps future researchers, for a long time we believed it was James the son of Robert and Ann GREEN b.1775 at Shorwell who married Ruth Rolf, it was only after checking whether James was a widow when he married her and finding the burial with his birthdate that we were able to connect him back to the James who married Rachel Rolf and who was the son of William Lock and Martha Mortimer.
