Ian Have you considered that George Phillip may have died off the Island? Also consider that he may have died before the birth of Helen Mary, at least up to 9 months before ;-) although of course the birth certificate should be able to confirm this. He may also have died during 1894. There is no obvious match using FreeBMD (searching for George* or Phil*) but if you have his age then you may be able to find some likely candidates. Coverage of deaths for this period is approaching 100% except for 1886 and especially 1887. have you tried 1837 online (http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/), a good place to start would be 1887 since the coverage in FreeBMD is virtually nil. Presumably also you have no record for George Phillip in the 1891 census? Hope this helps. George Phillip Bennett married Ann Morris off the Island in 1882, they had Helen Mary Bennett in 1885 in Ryde. Some time after 1885 and before 1893 George Phillip Bennett Died. I know this because Ann Morris Married Charles Albert Jolliffe on 3 Nov 1894 and she was a widow. Do you think I can find any reference to his death anywhere? NO! So before I go totally insane waiting for the very kind people at the IOW family History society to transcribe the death register, (I wouldn’t' know about the second marriage if it wasn't for there marvellous efforts so far) is there some way someone can have a peek for me and see if he is there?
