Chris. and Caroline and Listers, Are you able to help me with the following puzzle? I have traced my grandmother's family back to a William Hayles born in 1772 in Shalfleet. No parents are listed for him. William married Sarah Bishop in 1797. The most likely father for the above William is William Hayles born 1847 in Shalfleet. [Father Thomas Hayles born abt. 1720, see Hayles Family Tree] William [1847] married Jenny in 1771. But the son of William and Jenny is named 'Ephraim' born 1772 in Shalfleet not 'William' and there is only one child. Could a transcription error have been made in this case confusing 'William' with 'Ephraim'? Perhaps someone on the list has information which could get me through this impasse. Joan Myers
