Hi everyone, All this talk about Havenstreet and Ashey are like ancient history to me. You see, tho' I was born in Ryde my parents and siblings were living in the Ashey Station House. I have no idea why as Dad was a farm worker and had no involvement with the railways at all. In 1987 we took him and Mum back there, knowing it would be the last time we would see either of them alive and Dad told us he had his picture in the IoW County Press ploughing up the Ashey Racecourse in Britain's dig for victory campaign. He was in a reserved occupation and never went to war. From Ashey we moved to Havenstreet and it was there that my first memories of very early childhood started. I was even able to drive the rental car right up to the house we lived in more than fifty years earlier. One day, if my ship ever comes in, I would like to return to the Island. Please don't let it change too drastically. Derek, on the Island of Efate. Once an Islander always an Islander.
