Hello IoW listers, I have just rejoined the list, having previously enjoyed much assistance on the WAY and ELDRIDGE families. I have found in the 1798 will of William WAY (husband of Mary WHITEHEAD) that he left his "farm and lands called Croxforde and Barham in the parish of Arreton" to his eldest son James. Does anyone know anything about this/these farms - exactly where they were, whether they were two small and adjacent farms or two names for the one farm? I do not know the origin of this land - whether William WAY inherited it from his parents (Arthur WAY and Mary RAWKINS), though William had many brothers, whether it came from his wife's parents, though they lived in Brighstone, or whether he purchased it, though he seems to have been the first in a line of grocers & tea merchants in High Street Newport (and later London). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, George Legge Melbourne, Australia
